[BUG] Spotify does not handle Windows Explorer crashes. Please fix.

[BUG] Spotify does not handle Windows Explorer crashes. Please fix.

I have windows 10. I set the option to have Spotify in the notification area instead of closing it when i close the window. Also I have the media overlay enabled (the one embedded in the vertical volume slider like groove music).

When, for any reason, the Windows Explorer (explorer.exe - the program providing the desktop interface of Windows) crashes and restarts I find that:

  • The notification area icon is gone, forcing me to "open" Spotify again (double click the link on my desktop) to get the window to show.
  • The media overlay feature does not work, forcing me to "open" Spotify again (double click the link on my desktop) to get the window to show and use the play/pause, previous, next buttons from there.
  • Media playback control keys on my keyboard (play/pause, and next) stop working!

Terminating all of the Spotify processes and then restarting Spotify is a frustrating workaround, but it works. Still, it is very unpractical.

Please solve this issue for people who have unstable Windows systems.

This made my day: "Please solve this issue for people who have unstable Windows systems."

The only way to fix this is by reinstalling your Windows installation, which is your duty (or problem). How can you possibly think that you can just push your issues to others to get it fixed? Also the tray issue, this is a Windows issue and impossible to get fixed by Spotify. There are tons of applications with the same issue after explorer.exe crashses, are you really going to contact them too and asking them to improve their operating system because you're too lazy to get your pc fixed?

Pro tip: While you at it, switch over to Linux, way more stable.
