My Question or Issue

Hey, Spotify won’t recognize my local MP3 files on Windows 10, despite adding folders correctly in settings, clearing cache, reinstalling the app, trying Spicetify tweaks, downgrading the app and installing the Media Feature Pack for Windows LTSC, the files are 320kbps 44.1kHz and not DRM protected, is this a known issue or is there any way to fix it and get local files working properly on this version of Windows?

Hey, just an update, the installer from Microsoft didn’t work for some weird reason, it kept telling me my feature pack was already installed, but it wasn't. I figured i'd try running DISM for installing Windows Media Player and a PowerShell command to install windows components. Here are the commands if someone has the same problem as me:

Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name Media.MediaFeaturePack~~~~0.0.1.0
dism /online /add-capability /capabilityname:Media.WindowsMediaPlayer~~~~0.0.12.0

After restarting my PC, everything started to work, Spotify now recognizes local files perfectly. Thanks for help guys!

Hi, @patryk22,

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

To confirm the issue isn't with the files themselves, have you tried uploading them on another device (like your mobile phone or a different PC) to see if they'd be recognized by the app there? In case they do, you can try installing Spotify from a different source - if you downloaded it from the Microsoft Store, try the version from our website instead and vice versa.

You also mentioned that you're using Spiceitfy which is a third-party tool not affiliated with Spotify, so it's worth checking if disabling it/uninstalling it alleviates the issue.

Let us know how it goes 👍

Yes, the files themselves are fine. They work on my phone without any issues, and even freshly downloaded MP3 files are not recognized on my Windows machine. Local files were working correctly before installing Windows 10 LTSC. I’m using the installer from Spotify’s website, not the Microsoft Store one. I’ve already tried the MS Store version as well and downgraded several versions down. Spicetify has been completely uninstalled. The issue persists specifically on Windows 10 N LTSC, and I’m not sure if this is because N LTSC is mega-stripped down Windows 10 ver even without media components, though I installed them back.

Hey again @patryk22,

I believe you're right - it seems to me that the version of Windows is what's causing the issue here but I'm wondering if there's anything aside from the components you've already installed that's necessary and currently missing.

What I'd do is reinstall the media pack if possible and make sure that all necessary codecs are also present. I'd also take a look if all drivers are up to date and see if Spotify is not being blocked by the firewall for good measure.

Fingers crossed! Keep us posted on how things go 🙂
