Local files added to playlist but greyed out

My Question or Issue

 I have music arrangement software (Finale) and created an arrangement of a classical piece.  I exported it out to an MP3 file (this is NOT restricted).  I opened Spotify, added the location of the local file.  I then went to local files, found the mp3 piece and added it to my playlist.  When I open the playlist, it is greyed out (only the songs from Spotify are playable) and will not play.

I thought that maybe I had to complete another step and open Spotify on my mobile phone and "download" the new piece.  Download is not an option for this piece.  So, I'm stumped.

I know that the file is good because it plays perfectly in Windows Media Player and Audacity.

I've tried searching everywhere but can't find a solution that works.  Please let me know if there's any more information you need or if I missed a step.
