Media keys no longer work when window is inactive

As the title suggests, my media keys on my keyboard are no longer working for spotify.

I have Google Chrome installed but I do not have Google Play Music or any other media extensions installed/enabled that was suggested as an issue on other topics.

I am running windows 10 with the latest updates applied.

What do you mean by inactive? When the computer is in Standby?

No, sorry should have explained better. I mean when I have Spotify playing
and then I browse the Internet or play a game on my pc the media keys stop
working.

This never used to happen and it would work fine.
