My Question or Issue

Whenever I open spotify my monitor (MSI monitor) turns off. The issue has to do with the monitor having HD audio output speakers, because when i disabled them in device manager the problem was resolved, but I still think its worth to try and fix because its unfortunate to be unable to use the speakers on my monitor.

Hey @kjayfr,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

That's an odd behavior. To start investigating this, would you mind confirming the Spotify version you're currently running on your PC?

Also, could you check if the Web Player starts the same behavior or not?

Lastly, if you installed the app from the official website, we'd recommend installing the version available in the Microsoft store (or vice versa) to see if it has the same behavior with your screen.

We'll be on the lookout.

Same here, the issue happens on both Web and Desktop versions on Windows 11 (26100.4061). When the app launches for the first time after the system startup, it disconnects the external monitor (DisplayPort cable). Closing and re-opening the app helps for whatever reason

Hey folks!

Thank you for posting on the Community about this. We did some further digging in order to see what can help you out in this situation. Here's what we found:

  • Disable the monitor's built-in speakers in Device Manager (as @kjayfr has done).
  • Try using HDCP 2.2+ compliant cables - cheaper/older cables often don't fully support the Spotify services.
  • Close and reopen after first launch - the error will appear when launching the app but the process that triggers the malfunction only activates at the first app launch of your work session.
  • See if uninstalling Windows KB5053598 would help - this has been a valid user-provided solution in the past so it may help out as well. Just make sure you have a restore point ready in case anything goes sideways.

Note that this Community thread could be of use to you, since it handles a very similar issue.

Hope this helps! Keep us posted on how things go.
