Moving single tracks in already sorted playlist?

Moving single tracks in already sorted playlist?

My Question or Issue

I tend to keep most of my playlist sorted by recently added. In past, I was able to move single tracks freely up and down this already date-oriented playlist (in case I accidentally deleted something but wanted to remain "original" order). Now I don't see this option, neither on my PC nor on my Android phone. I tricked long-click on a track and moving it, but to no avail.

It's a basic function, really. Can You make it possible again?

Hey @drezewski,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for posting your question here.

At the moment, the playlists you create are sorted according to a 'recently added songs' rule by default.

With the desktop app, you can customize the order of the songs in one of your playlists by making sure the list is sorted by default and simply dragging each song name up and down depending on the position you want the song to have in the list.

With the mobile app, you can customize the songs order by opening the playlist, then clicking on the three dots symbol (top right corner) and after that clicking on 'Edit'.

With both the desktop and the mobile app, you won't be able to customize this order if you apply any other sorting filter such as, for example, 'title', 'artist', or 'album'.

If you wish that Spotify made it possible to customize the order of the songs in a playlist while having already applied a sorting filter (for instance, having sorted the songs according to 'title'), feel free to suggest this as an idea. To do so:

  • Go to the Spotify Community
  • Click on Menu
  • Click on Ideas > Idea submissions
  • Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on 'Let’s go

As a heads-up, it's good to know that the higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for the idea to be implemented 🙂

Hope you'll find this helpful. Feel free to reach out anytime if there's anything else we can help with!
