Similar to these 2 but the solution on the Windows question does not apply to me since I can't find the `"Show desktop overlay when using media keys"` in my prefrences.

If this is happening on mac, I found a solution:

Don't use the Mac App.

Instead, option Spotify in the browser, I suggest Firefox. I use Firefox solely for Spotify now. I use Chrome for everything else.

This will not work by default though. You need to adjust Firefox's media keys settings, as per this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1309879

After you do this, you're in the clear and everything will work. No more frustrating muting of your audio.

In this case we suggest that you perform a clean reinstall. This is different than a quick reinstall and could be helpful to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

If that doesn't do the trick - can you log in with another account on the device - such as a friend's or a family member's to see if the issue persist?
