Playlist names not visible, only pictures

Playlist names not visible, only pictures

I have a Windows 10 computer, and for some reason, Spotify is no longer displaying playlist titles along the side and will only show the icons for the playlists. This is really frustrating because there isn't any point in letting me have a name for a playlist if you won't show it. None of the names are in violation or anything, and it seems to be more a display problem than anything. Is there a setting that will let me change it back to being able to actually see the titles of my playlists? I will mention, if I access Spotify as a webpage, it is normal, but the desktop app seems to have rejected the concept of words. If this is a new update or something, it's not user friendly at all because now it's really difficult to see which playlists are which and there should definitely be an option to have different displays rather than alienating people that use a computer.

Hey @displayissues,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community.

This sounds odd and we'll do our best to help you. However, in order for us to better understand what exactly is going on, could you post some screenshots of your experience with playlists on the Desktop App?

In the meantime, we'd suggest that you try to disable hardware acceleration in the app. Go to Settings > Compatibility > toggle off "Enable hardware acceleration" option then restart Spotify.

We'd also recommend that you delete your prefs file. Follow the steps below.

  1. Go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\.
  2. There you'll find a file called prefs, which holds info about the currently logged in account. Simply delete it.
  3. While in the Spotify folder, you'll also find a Users folder. Open it and delete its contents as well.
  4. Restart the Spotify app.

Note that you'll be logged out and your settings will be reset, so you'll have to adjust them again. If you had music downloaded for offline listening, you'll have to re-download it as well. Your library, however, will not be affected, so no worries there.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Spotify used to be such a joy to use.  Now I get so frustrated every time I use it that I think about ending my subscription.

There is no "compatibility" under settings.  I'm on a Macbook Air, Sonoma 14.1.1

Hey @maralynn,

Thanks for reaching out in this thread!

Could you try changing the Your library view to see if the playlist names appear? For example, you can do so by clicking Expand Your Library > press Filter (on the right-hand side in Your Library) > select List under View as. You can also try selecting Compact, this way, only the playlist names should appear.

Shouldn't that do the trick, can you let us know what Spotify version you're currently running? A screenshot showing how things look like from your end would also be helpful.

Let us know how you get on.
