My Question or Issue

Recently I've noticed all my playlist background colors changed to a seemingly random color and no matter what I change in the first 4 songs, the colors stay the same. I have also noticed that when embedding a playlist, the order of the cover songs are different and it seems to correlate to the weirdly different colors. The cover songs in the embedded view also stay the same in that order even if I remove the songs from the top 4.

Some examples:

Also an example of what the 2022 playlist cover looks like if I add those 4 songs to a new playlist, which is what it originally looked like:

Embed is still messed up though:

I know this is not a big issue, but as someone who likes to create their playlist covers based on the colors they make, it is annoying. Hopefully this is just a weird bug that can be resolved quickly!

Hey @Totorooww,

No worries! Thank you for letting us know 🙂

Have you noticed if this behaviour is observed only on older playlists or on new, more recent ones as well?
In case only older playlists are affected, I'd suggest creating new ones as placeholders and copying the songs to them instead.

It's not ideal but it might work as temporary workaround.

You can make a copy of a playlist by either selecting all songs (Ctrl+A) and copying & pasting them to the new playlist (Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V) from the desktop app, or you can go to your playlist on the mobile app, open its settings via the three dots and select 'Add to other playlist'.

Keep us posted on how things go.

Hey @Totorooww,

Thanks for posting this thread in the Community!

The background color of a playlist is determined either by the first 4 songs added there or if you've uploaded a cover art image, so if it doesn't change for you even after you switch the first songs, it's worth trying the following:

  • Could you take a look at how these playlists, as well as embedding them appear on another device?
  • Check if the background color changes on the other device(s) if you remove/switch some of the first 4 added songs or if you upload an image as cover art.
  • You could also test this in the Web Player.

If this behavior persists only on the PC app, then it's worth performing some troubleshooting. You can log out > back in twice in a row for a resync of the app and account, and as a more advanced step, you could give Spotify a clean reinstall

Keep us posted 🙂

My Question or Issue

I changed the photo of my playlist but its background colour doesn't change on my desktop app while the link online is working. I have already tried signing in and our and unistalling the app but nothing seems to work. Please help me

Sorry for the late response. I still have this issue and it is on Android, Windows 10, and on the web app. I included in my original post what embeds look like, and they still look like that.

Thank you for the response, It does seem to only be older playlists. I
appreciate the temporary fix!

How to fix?

I'm struggling with this HELP

Yes it seems to be back unfortunately, the background stays grey for a long while, and finally updates but after some back and forth between playlists, some closing and reopening, it's not immediate like when you fixed it last time...
