Podcast video downloaded offline not working on desktop

Podcast video downloaded offline not working on desktop

Looking through my settings, there's no option to toggle audio-only downloads, which I suspect to be the crux of the problem. I've tried on both the browser and app, but I can't seem to find it. Previously, I owned a Chromebook and an Android, and that specific setting was available on both.

So I guess this is simply a device-exclusive setting?

Hey @WildCow,

We moved your post out of the big thread as your question is a bit different than the sentiment there, hope you don't mind 🙂

Toggling audio-only podcast downloads on & off is a mobile-only feature. This is why the setting is not available on your desktop device. Note that Chromebooks use the Google Play store to download and install the mobile version of the app as well, which is why you're remembering previously seeing it being there.

Here's how to find and enable this setting 🔽

Mobile Devices (iOS/ Android):

Spoiler
  1. Premium + Video Downloads enabled:
Verify that you have a Spotify Premium subscription and ensure that your device settings allow for video downloads. Navigate to Spotify settings, find the "Data Saver"  section, and ensure that "Download audio only" and "Stream audio only" are toggled off.
  2. Find and Select the Video Podcast:
Search for the desired video podcast and open the episode you want to download.
  3. Download the Episode:
Tap the download icon next to the episode. If prompted, choose to download the video version.
  4. Access Offline Content: When in Offline mode, go to "Your Library" then "Episodes" to find the downloaded video podcast and enjoy it offline.

Desktop Devices:

Spoiler
  1. Premium: You'll need a Spotify Premium subscription for offline listening.
  2. Download the Podcast: Locate the video podcast episode and initiate the download. You can do this by clicking the three dots (more options) next to the episode and selecting "Download".
  3. Offline Listening: The downloaded episode will be available in your library under "Downloaded," but only the audio will be available offline. Video content is not supported for offline playback on desktop.

Hope you'll find this info helpful! We're here for you if there's anything else!
