My Question or Issue

Never had this issue before, and my android phone running the same vpn providers' (Mullvad) app works fine, but

recently my pc app of spotify seems to simply refuse to play Anything when started, as long as I'm connected to this vpn.

I've tried enabling split tunneling through the vpn client, and I've reinstalled the app at least a couple of times by now, but so far no luck.

If I turn off the vpn connection for my pc entirely, the app works instantly np.

Any advice from both mods and other readers welcomed. Thanks! 🙂

Hey @ibrand,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community.

It's possible that VPNs can cause issues such as the one you had experienced. They can mask the real IP address and device that is being used to access your account. Usually a VPN also switches between multiple IPs from different locations.

A lot of sites and services will either block known VPN IPs or can be a reason to trigger security protocols based on location and device access. In other words, using a VPN can make the security system think that your account is being accessed by multiple unknown locations, which in turn would trigger an automated password reset to your account.

Spotify does not currently block VPN usage, but we also do not support it and we can't guarantee that the service would work as expected when using one.

We can recommend that you check your VPN settings to see if there's anything there that may be preventing your PC from playing songs and make also sure that Spotify and your VPN client are up to date.

If the issue persists, you'd have to reach out to your your VPN provider, since we can we cannot speak for other services and their usage rules. The representatives from the respective service would be able to provide more information about that.

The Community is always here if there's anything else you need assistance with.

Take care 🙂
