My Question or Issue

Since the April/May big user interface update of the spotify desktop application the system media keys for play/pause/stop/next/prev only sporadically are working with spotify. Mostly they are not. I've confirmed this behavior also on different systems, such as my two laptops. This is majorly annoying as I can't stop the music or start it when I want to without interrupting my work and opening the window. Sometimes when I do this I find out that the app has kind of crashed, as nothing is reacting anymore. What I also notice is that sometimes when shutting down my PC, that spotify shows up some message box with some weird memory issues, which is blocking my windows from shutting down. Maybe this is all related that the app is just kind of hanging. The old app was much better integrated into the windows environment and never caused such problems.

Yes I've also already reinstalled it and cleaned my appdata and rebooted my PC.

Hi there @nemcija,

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

Try heading to the app's Settings and toggle the option Show Local Files on > toggle off all the sources that appear there > toggle Show Local Files back off > restart de app.

Also, try toggling off Enable hardware acceleration.

Let us know if that makes any difference.

Disabling hardware acceleration seemed to fix this for me.
