My Question or Issue

Spotify displayed an ad for WinzipDriverUpdater and when i clicked the ad my Malwarebytes Antimalware blocks the webpage saying it contains malware and then shuts down the webpage.

Is the ad redirecting me to a page full of virus and malware ?

I thought Spotify was free from viruses , but now i'm not so sure anymore ?

Why use ads that redirects to virus pages ?

I know i use the free version and there are no ads in premium, but seriously ?

The free users do not deserve virus and malware just because they do not have premium !

Hey there @SpotifyHero!

Thanks for flagging this with us and kudos on your username 😁

Rest assured the privacy and security of our customers' data is always the highest priority.

We'll just need a bit more info about the ad you've seen so that we'd able to report this further.

Can you let us know the following details:

  • The exact version of your Spotify App (for example 1.1.28)
  • Rough time/date you heard the advert

  • Is it a visual or audio ad?

We'll investigate this further once we get a bit more details. Keeping an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

I just found out that i received an e-mail when i logged in to my account earlier so now i believe i can tell exactly when i received the ad containing malware.

The exact version of your Spotify App (for example 1.1.28) = 1.1.29.592.gf0779179
Rough time/date you heard the advert = I received an e-mail saying i logged in to my account “Mar 31, 2020, 5:59:42 PM CEST” (so that means that i had to receive the ad containing the malware some time just before i logged in to my account) , hope that helps ?

Is it a visual or audio ad? = It was a visual ad (Nothing happened as long as i didn’t press the mouse button on the ad, but as soon as i clicked the mouse button on the ad it redirected me to a website and the malwarebytes antimalware software blocked the connection saying the website contained malware)
