Spotify app makes my game stutter/freeze till I tab out

Spotify app makes my game stutter/freeze till I tab out

Hello,

so I’ve got a new pc around 2-3weeks ago (high end specs). Everytime I listen to Spotify on the app it makes my game stutter really bad and I basically can’t do anything anymore so I have to tab out my game to fix the stutter and tab in again. This happens once in a while. I tried playing YouTube Netflix or even the Spotify web player and my game just run all perfect. I tried contacting the spotify support and didn’t get a working solution. As said spotify web player runs just fine so does any other streaming app. Spotify app runs fine if I don’t run any game.

I tried:

Clean installing the app multiple times from windows store and Spotify website

turn proxy off and hardware acceleration

turn spotify priority to high and low to experiment any difference (no difference)

deactivating the firewall/putting Spotify as an excuse

playing Spotify on a different test account which still caused the same issue

update all my drivers and so on

I am also gonna bump this post, I have all the same problems

Hello i am facing the same issue as of a few weeks. i have tried everything suggested above but nothing seems to work unfortunatly.

I have Windows 10 22H2 version and spotify 1.2.13.661.ga588f749 version.

I also have a video that shows how it looks and sounds attached to this message. In the video i am playing Hydroneer(but it happens with every game i have played) when this "glitch" happens and as soon as i was able to alt tab the lag stops and the song continuous. I also couldn't move in game while this was happening. I hope this helps!

So did the moderators just give up on this issue or does it always take this long to reply to a problem?

Hey there folks,

Thank you for your posts and apologies for the delayed reply.

We cannot provide a timeframe for a potential fix to this issue, however, will make sure to pass on this information to our developers to keep working on the app's optimization as Spotify always strives to improve your experience.

In the meantime please make sure to keep your app up to date with the latest version, so you don't miss out on any important fixes or features.

Hope this helps. Take care 🙂

I have the exact same problem and ive tried the same trouble shooting along with checking my pc for corrupted files etc.

I have been having this exact same problem to the point where I cant even provide you a screen recording when it happens because it literally freezes my entire pc up and I cant windows key I have to (control alt delete task manager) and sometimes even then the buttons don't respond instantly until the pc starts working again. I have tried doing a full reinstall. checked all my settings are correct, ran on administrator. disabled hardware acceleration. ran scans on it using antivirus to check for any problems. (my OS version is 10.0.19045 build 19045 ) the version displayed is Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.17.834.g26ee1129 and I have no means of updating it or making automatic updates available in the settings. I simply cant find a means to it. I really would like this issue resolved as I've been mass reported in video games for seemingly cheating when it freezes my pc because it will respond in the video game like I'm repeating my last action over and over again until my pc calibrates and I teleport back to the positions I left off when I started getting the freeze.

I have had this issue to the exact letter how @sixwings described it.

  • I have ran the Spotify in both the App and the Browser
  • I have reinstalled the app
  • I have disabled Hardware Acceleration
  • I have changed proxy settings to auto

I am running Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.18.999.g9b38fc27

As well as Windows 11 version 22H2 OS Build 22621.2134

Same issues as other users, any time I play Rainbow 6 Siege whilst listening to Spotify my game stutters like crazy. Anyone got any further info?

If anyone is using Avira Antivirus, turn off the Game Booster Mode, that fixed it for me so far... For people using different antivirus software, I suggest to check if they have something similar to the Game Booster Mode. Hope this is a fix for other people 🙂

I keep getting the same problem to the letter. I have tried everything: Clean install, tuning off hardware acceleration, listening offline, updating drivers, changing stream quality, using the browser version and nothing works. Really wished a solution would turn up in the year its been a problem.

im facing the same issues.

Same exact issue also!! Newly built PC. This didn't happen before the rebuild. I can't figure out the cause either. But if I am tabbed into my full screen game (WoW), then Spotify repeats or freezes altogether until I tab back into it.

Spotify for Windows (64 bit) version 1.2.30.1135.g02fef27a

Windows 11, latest updates applied.

AORUS Elite AX Z790

Intel i7-13700K

64GB RAM

All drivers up to date.

Please someone help me i got the same problem. I have reinstalled spotify. Tried literally everything and it not working. Spotify is bugging on every game I play. Someone got a solution for this?

Still have exactly the same issue, however in the web browser everything is ok.

Perhaps the problems we are facing are the same but the root cause could be computer-specific. In my case, I tried many of the abovementioned suggestions but what worked for me was deactivating gaming mode from Norton (it was set by default on my new computer). In my case, Spotify was making the videogames I was playing lag. Not anymore.
Hope this can help someone:)

Cheers

I have the same issue, it not only happens while gaming, also in any full-screen app. It's super frustrating, I stop using Spotify desktop app now

LIFESAVER!!! Just built my new pc and been trying to fix this for a couple weeks. Turning Norton game optimisation fixed it immediately TYSM! ❤️

I was able to resolve this ridiculous issue by uninstalling Spotify app from my computer and then before reinstalling it, remembering that it's bricking my computer regularly.

Same for me, this issue only happened to me when i got a new pc. Im still finding a way to resolve this issue.

Youre a lifesaver. Turning off Norton game optimization actually works lol. Thank you regardelabas
