My Question or Issue
As title says, Spotfy shows up as "Chrome" in Volume Mixer. I have experienced this issue before when using the Spotify app from Microsoft Store, but switching to the standalone app downloaded from your website fixed this issue. Now it has returned. It looks like the Store app was using the browser version of Spotify, and now it looks like the standalone has been recently switched to that too. With that, you can't anymore mark songs you don't like on your Discover Weekly.
Hi @edweird!
Interesting. Could you confirm that you don't have the Web Player open in another tab in your browser? You might have accidentally switched playback to it while the desktop app was running.
In any case, a screenshot / short screen recording which captures the described behavior in action, along with the exact version of Spotify you're running would be greatly appreciated - that way we can get a clear idea of what's happening on your end.
Cheers!
Hi Yordan, thanks for the quick reply!
I am never using Spotify in my browser, only through the app, so there is no chance I could have it open in a tab.
I already managed to solve the issue, yet I couldn't figure out how it even happened. In my Start menu, I had two options for Spotify - one shortcut going to the standalone app, and the other going to a "Chrome apps" folder. Right clicking the chrome apps one and choosing Uninstall brought me to Programs And Features, where I could only see and uninstall the standalone app. Ended up just deleting the shortcut from Chrome Apps.
Hi @edweird,
Thanks for your reply. We're glad to know you were able to resolve the situation. Not really sure why that could've happened, maybe something related to you uninstalling the app from the Microsoft Store and installing it directly from our website.
If you ever experience the same behavior, we'd recommend first performing a clean reinstall of the app, which will delete all stored cache of the app on Windows, before installing it again. Additionally, you can follow these steps:
- Open the Volume Mixer on Windows.
- Select the Speakers.
- Go to Advanced.
- Check the option "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".
Moreover, we'll be here in case you have any questions or need further assistance.
I have the exact same issue, even after clearing cache and performing a clean reinstall straight from the windows store.
i do not WANT to allow applications to take EXCLUSIVE control of my audio devices.
The whole performance of the spotify app is ABHORRENT in a semi-powerful machine that runs browsers, discord and spotify EXCLUSIVELY (i run a dual-pc setup).
How is it possible that a company that rakes in BILLIONS does not have these kinds of issues fixed within hours?
this is because the spotify PC client is built ontop of CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework) which is essentially chrome's engine made available for anyone to use, this essentially allows spotify to embed the webpage in a desktop app. thats also why the pc client runs like [removed by Mod]
