Spotify can play cached/local songs, but not streamed audio

Spotify can play cached/local songs, but not streamed audio

Plan

Premium

Country

 United Kingdom

Operating System

Windows 10, Pro Edition

The Issue

Recently I have been having issue which results in spotify not being able to play songs which require audio streaming. When clicking on songs I have not previously listened to the following symptoms appear:

  • Audio stream does not start.
  • In the bottom right, the album, artist and title fields remain blank.

This issue does not occur for for songs that are either stored in cache, downloaded via premium or locally stored audio files being played. This issue does not occur on my laptop or mobile device.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times (both in normal and safe mode) with no success, uninstalled and reinstalled audio drivers, confirmed that applications have privelleges to take control of my audio, confirmed spotify is appearing in the mixer (but only when streaming local or cached audio), cleared the windows registry both manually and using CC cleaner (both whilst spotify is installed and uninstalled) along with a wide variety of other solutions with no avail. Including using the windows store version of spotify, which worked temporarily, until i recieved seperate issues on the windows store one but with similar symptoms.

Any ideas? this has prevented me from listening to music via my desktop computer for months on end, and I have not recieved an issue this persistent in my three years of happily using spotify until this one.

Let me know if you need any other system information or specifics about the symptoms I recieve, this may require deeper root cause analysis rather than just uninstall and reinstall steps.
