My Question or Issue
I'm getting more and more frustrated with Spotify on my laptop, because the laptop goes to sleep after being idle x minutes. When it resumes, spotify is in a kind of offline-state. I mean, I see everything but nothing is available to be played. I can logout but login fails with a firewall error (yes I allowed spotify.exe in windows firewall). Reinstall helps but this can't be a solution for sleeping laptops.... No difference between Windows store or Win32 version.
Hi @Y3PP3R,
Thank you for posting on the Community!
The behavior you describe is very odd, but there are some things we can try here. Since you've already reinstalled the app multiple times, we suggest you follow these steps to perform a clean reinstall, which is more thorough and will clear any corrupted file that may be lingering.
If that doesn't fix things, it's a good idea to also clear your hosts file for Spotify entries. This page explains how you can do the check.
Let us know how this goes.
It happened again just now, everything is disabled again. I'm going to clean reinstall again, but this is not fun 😞
Clean reinstall didn't help, after reinstall i couldn't login (SPotify user/pass just hangs, facebook login opens a site and says to close the window and after a while the client reports an error). After 1000 attempts of open/login/close, and leaving the client open, it suddenly worked again. I'm out of options, other than webplayer when the client fails.
Hey @Y3PP3R,
Thanks for the reply.
You can try the following:
Go to C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Spotify\Data and delete everythign in that folder. Make sure Spotify is closed and not running in the background before doing this.
If that doesn't heps, let us know if you're using the version from the MS store or the one that can be downloaded direcly from Spotify.
Cheers.
Happened again.
Close spotify completely, emptied data folder, startup again, didn't help.
Using installer version, not the store version.
Hi again @Y3PP3R,
Could you try downloading the Microsoft Store version instead to see if it works better this time?
Keep in mind that as with all new operating systems, some unexpected behavior can occur in the early months of the OSs life-cycle, until developers work out the kinks, and this is the case with Windows 11.
That being said, do you have the option to test this out on another Windows 11 computer? This would help us determine if the reason for this behavior is due to the configuration on that specific device.
Keep us posted.
I'm glad someone else is having the same issue as me. My Spotify app isn't working either on my PC and hasn't worked for over a month at least now. I can listen on web version but I'd rather use the app. I have tried the different app versions mentions, and I have also tried uninstalling everything Spotify, restarting, reinstalling several times - but same error. The settings in Spotify I have are identical on my work and home laptop - works fine on there but just not the PC and I don't understand why because it's the same version of Windows 10. Really frustrating.
Hi @suzy_ska,
Thank you for posting on this thread.
To start, we'd like to know if this issue happens when your computers are connected to the internet through WIFI, ethernet cable or both.
Also, please follow the steps I shared on my previous post to clear the Hosts file. In addition, make sure your firewall has Spotify whitelisted as an exception.
Let us know how it goes.
Hi there @Y3PP3R,
Thank you for your reply and confirmation.
We're glad to see that everything works as it should for now.
Let us know if anything else comes up.
Take care 🙂
