Spotify connect device (Sonos play 1)

Spotify connect device (Sonos play 1)

Hi,

I use two Sonos Play 1 speakers (set as a stereo pair and labelled 'Kitchen') to play spotify through (via the spotify app, not the sonos app) and have never had any problems connecting/disconnecting previously. Unfortunately, as of yesterday, Spotify permanently shows 'kitchen - spotify connect' on the device menu on both iOS and windows AFTER both speakers have been turned off. As soon as Spotify is launched on windows or iOS it immediately says 'you are listening on 'kitchen'' and I have to manually choose listen on this computer/iphone. If the speakers are turned on, the list then shows two connect devices both labelled 'kitchen' but only one will work and play music. The other device, if selected, will be in a permanent state of connecting but will never do so.

I have tried everything to remove the device from my account but nothing will work. I have tried;

'Forget device' on the device menu in the iOS app - it does nothing

Reinstalling the app on both iOS and Windows

Full reset of the Sonos speakers

Signing out of everywhere via the website

Changing password

Removing all offline devices via the website

Revoking access from Sonos via the website

Downgrading to Spotify free briefly (I'm part of a family membership. The device still shows on the list and gives the option to connect despite connect being a feature of Spotify premium)

Adding and then removing my spotify account from the Sonos speakers via it's own app

Reboot of the router

The same thing also occurs when connecting to spotify via 3G/4G and the device is still shown on the list and will permanently show connecting if selected.

I have also tried spotify on my mother's phone (on her own account) and the speakers will only show on the list when they are powered on and then disappear again once powered off.

I'm completely stuck now and would appreciate any help!!

Tom

I've had serious issues with the whole Spotify Premium/SONOS combo but most of the issues I've had have been SONOS related. Have you checked the SONOS app on iOS to see if there are updates to your Play 1. I've been guilty of not updating and then blaming everything (and everyone!).

I must've been lucky to not have any problems so far then! I've checked for updates on both the iOS app and the windows app and it says 'your sonos system is up to date'. I thought it may have been a Sonos problem which is why I did a factory reset on them just in case but it hasn't made a difference!

You mention you don't use the SONOS app on iOS. Have you tried adding a music service (Spotify) to it and having a go that way? I actually play Spotify through the SONOS app.

The Sonos app works as it should if I add my Spotify account through it, I just prefer using the Spotify app to control it/browse my music.

It also doesn't solve the problem of the speakers showing up as a device on Spotify and then stating that it's still playing through them whenever I open spotify even if i'm out of the house!!
