Crashing on startup

Solved!

Crashing on startup

Spotify crashes as soon as I open it. I tried reinstalling it, and then it lets me login, but as soon as I'm logged in it crashes again. I tried using the windows 10 app, same result.

One thing that I noticed is when I delete the cache or manually stop SpotifyWebHelper.exe it takes longer to crash, but still crashes nonetheless.

Spotify version: 1.0.75.483.g7ff4a0dc

Windows version: Windows 10 Pro 1709 (16299.248)

Hey @sergeantbiggs

That's odd!

Is this crashing behaviour a recent thing? Also, do you see any errors anywhere?

I would suggest a clean reinstall right now:

1. Close Spotify and uninstall it.

2. Go to %AppData% in Windows Explorer, and delete any Spotify folders you find in Local and Roaming folders.

3. Restart your computer.

4. Install Spotify from here.

Keep me in the loop 🙂

I already did a clean reinstall before posting. I think it started happening with the update to the Spotify version I mentioned in my post. I don't see any errors when starting it. It just starts and then stops after a few seconds.

I suggest doing the clean reinstall, but this time installing Spotify using this offline installer.

Also, make sure you have all the important and recommended Windows updates installed. Sometimes there might be some pretty important driver updates available that will fix plenty of issues.

If none of these help, I would like a screenshot of the error you'll find in the Event Viewer:
Open Event Viewer (search for it), then find Windows logs in the left window, expand it and select Application. In the main window/frame you see a bunch of entries. Most are informations. Search for those with "Spotify" as source, they are likely marked as Errors.
When you select the entry, then it will show details in the lower box. Error codes and information. That's what I'd like to see 🙂

Keep me posted!

Installing the offline version worked. Thank you!

Ok, So I just found out that using the offline version did precisely nothing. It just worked because it was an older version. Now back at square one. And since they upgraded the offline version I can't even use that now
