My Question or Issue

Spotify doesn't stop playing when closing laptop lid.

Windows power settings are set to sleep when closing the lid, but if Spotify is playing then this doesn't happen.

I expect Spotify to stop playing and allow the computer to go to sleep.

Is there a way to fix this?

What is the expected behavior of Spotify when closing the lid?

Hi there @user-removed,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

If you don't have your computer set up for Spotify to keep playing after the lid is closed, this shouldn't happen. To begin with, if you haven't, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the Spotify app by following these steps.

If that doesn't help, check your computer's Power and sleep settings and make sure the PC is going to sleep when you close the lid. You can check how to do it with these steps from the Microsoft support page.

If nothing helps, would you mind sending us a video recording of this behavior? You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply!

I verified Windows settings and reinstalled Spotify but the issue persists.

Please find the recording of the issue attatched, I tried to choose a song that doesn't have copyrights for the recording, the volume might be low.

Thanks for the reply @user-removed!

Could you try switching off Hardware acceleration to see if it makes any difference? You can find it by clicking on your profile image in the top right corner > Settings > scroll down to Compatibility > switch off Enable hardware acceleration.

Shouldn't that do the trick, could you check if the same thing happens if you set the laptop to sleep from the PC's power menu? Could you also try playing music from another service, for example YouTube, to see if it still plays after closing the lid?

Keep us posted on how it goes!
