My Question or Issue

I've been having an issue with the Spotify desktop app. After a while, it becomes incredibly slow and laggy and I have no idea what causes it or how to fix it. Things I've tried are:

Clean reinstall

Clearing cache

Disabling hardware acceleration

Clearing up my library

Worth noting is that Spotify returns to normal speed after doing a clean reinstall, but after a while it slows back down again and I'm really not looking forward to periodically reinstalling the software just to make it usable. Also this doesn't affect the songs.

Hello @EwokalypseNow,

Thank you for reaching out via the Community and for sharing what troubleshooting steps you've done so far. We really appreciate it.

By any chance, have you tested with another network connection (Wi-Fi or even mobile data shared via hotspot) if it makes any difference?

We've seen similar reports in the forum before about issues with the app's slower behavior on Windows and it's good to know that Spotify works as expected for a while after a clean reinstall. This could mean that there's corrupted cache that's the cause.

On Windows, it's possible to download the app both from the Microsoft Store and from our website. With this said and before we suggest any further steps, I recommend deleting the current version that you're using and downloading the one which you weren't using so far. The apps could have different behavior and it's worth testing.

Before you install Spotify again, you can check the clean reinstall guide here if you've not already done this, just to make sure that you've removed any leftover files.

Let us know how it goes.
