My Question or Issue

I am using version 1.2.6 9.448.gfda8591a, which I downloaded from Spotify's website. I have a Premium account and use it by downloading all of my playlists. Whenever I download more than 100 songs on average, Spotify crashes my entire Windows system. Spotify freezes/stutters (there is no problem with the sound).

When I minimize it to an icon, there is no disk usage, but when I restore Spotify to window size, disk usage reaches 30 MB/s or 40 MB/s, and at this point, Spotify freezes for a few seconds, and I cannot click on anything.

Is there a solution to this issue? The problem does not occur when I am not downloading anything.

Notes:
1) Spotify is installed on the same disk as Windows.
2) The download location is on the same disk where Windows and Spotify are installed.
3) The total size of the downloaded songs is 2107 MB.
4) The “Show Local Files” option is disabled.
5) The “Hardware Acceleration” option was tested both enabled and disabled, but the issue persists.
6) Both Windows and Spotify were reinstalled, but the issue continues.

The Spotify client has very poor optimization. When you minimize the client, it switches to power saving mode, but when you bring the client back to the foreground, it rescans all downloaded files, which causes Windows and the client to freeze because it ties up the disk. If it scanned only the songs in the open playlist instead of scanning all songs, this problem would not occur.

What did I do to solve this? I moved Spotify's installed files to another disk (not the downloaded songs, but the folder containing the .exe file) and selected the download folder on the same disk. As a result, Spotify does not run on the disk where Windows is installed, and the client's optimization issues do not affect my Windows.

If Spotify officials are watching, stop wasting time on trivial matters and focus on the real issues and optimizations!

Hi there @kdantex!

Can you try these steps for a clean reinstall and see if it makes a difference? You can also start the app in Safe Mode to check if that helps.

Keep me posted!

After installing Windows cleanly, I also installed Spotify cleanly, but disk usage starts to increase immediately after downloading any playlist or song.

We really appreciate your feedback and all the details you’ve shared with us!

I’ve passed this along to the Moderators team. While we can’t promise a fix or change, I’d recommend keeping your app updated so you don’t miss out on anything new.

Hope this helps clear things up! We’ll be here if you have any more questions.
