My Question or Issue
Hi
So it seems you have changed the way playlists function. When I search for a song in a playlist (please see the attached screenshot), and I press play on the song, the song plays. But when it is finished, Spotify doesn't continue to play songs from the same playlist. Instead, Spotify finds new songs that it thinks I want to listen to. But I just want to continue listening to the actual playlist I made. That's why I search within the playlist.
In order to have Spotify continue to play songs from the playlist in the same way I have organized them in the playlist, I have to actually scroll through the playlist and click the individual song. It seems that it is the playlist search function that halts playing the songs in the same order that I have placed them in my playlist. This is making it much harder to find the song I want to play from my playlist, when I want to continue to listen to the same playlist after the song has finished.
This isnt a technical issue I think, because It wasn't this way before. This seems to be an intentional change in how the playlist search function works. It is the dumbest change ever - why can't Spotify just simply play songs from my playlist? If not, what is the playlist search function good for? If I want to search throughout all of Spotify, I can very well use the general search function on top of the screen. But I want to find individual songs in my playlist by using the playlist search function, and then have Spotify continue to play songs from the playlist.
Hey @Mirnan,
Thanks for reaching out!
I tried reproducing this on my end and can confirm that it happened when I had songs outside this playlist in the queue, once it was cleared, the playlist I searched the song in continued to play. Can you check if there are any tracks in your queue and clear it? Another thing that's worth trying is making sure Autoplay is turned off in your app's settings.
A clean reinstall of the app is also a good idea, since it will remove any damaged cache, as well as clear the queue and ensure you're running the latest version. Can you also confirm if this only happens on desktop or in the mobile app as well?
Keep us posted.
Thank you, Dessi.
I have tried everything you mentioned and the problem persists. It only happens in the desktop app, the mobile app works fine.

Hey there @Mirnan,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Would you mind sending us a short screen recording of this behavior so we can take a closer look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
Additionally, could you let us know the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your device?
Lastly, we'd like to know if Autoplay in your app's settings is on or off.
Keep us posted.
Hi, I am expeirencing this issue too. Whenever I try to play a playlist, it will play the first song, then go off onto some songs that aren't in the playlist. I just want to listen to the playlist and not have to keep clicking play on it.
Hey @flyingscts,
Thank you for joining the conversation.
If you have a free account, this behavior could be expected depending on the device you're using to play your music. Keep in mind that using the free version of the app on a mobile device has some limitations including playing your music in Smart Shuffle, which adds some tunes to the queue that matches the current vibe.
In case you have a Premium subscription, make sure to clear the queue by following the steps mentioned here to see if it makes any difference.
Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.
Also having problems with playlist advancing. It just started for me this evening.
