Spotify plays wrong song (usually equivalent track number from subsequent album)

Solved!

Spotify plays wrong song (usually equivalent track number from subsequent album)

Description

Whenever I try to play a song, spotify will play the equivilant track number from the next album down, and to play the song I want to I have to play the equivilant track number from the preceeding album.

A more detailed description, using numbered steps

1. Tried to play the song I wanted to listen to (e.g. Bohemian Rhapsody on CD1 of the Queen Platinum collection) by double clicking or pressing enter button

2. Song on the next album plays instead (One Vison on CD1 of Live at Wembly Stadium)

3. To get original song to play I have to play the equivilant track number from the preceeding album (track 1 - Intro from Queen Rock Montreal)

What I expected to happen

I expected the song I wanted to play... to play

What actually happened

The song on the next album played (same track number, same CD number, next album down)

Same as the people above me.

With Android, PC, Linux and iOS devices.

Its mostly in my oldest playlists.

Same problem here

Win 7 Pro 64bit.

Only solution found is to click into the album so it is displayed on its own and not in a list of albums one after the other.

Same issue here. Win 8.1, Spority Version  0.9.6.72.ge389c074

plz fix?

Same issue on Ubuntu (Linux) 13.10.

Also experiencing this odd behavior.

Mac OS X 10.9, Spotify 0.9.6.72.ge389c074

If restarting the desktop client doesn't fix this for you, it's worth trying a reinstallation of the client.

Sometimes when I double click on a song on an artist page, the client plays the wrong song! I have a repeatable case for Dire Straits; if you try to play a song on any record listed it will play that song number of the next record in the list. See attached image, I double clicked on the green line; but see what's actually playing...

I think you have to let the client play for a while, play an album or so. Then when you change song on the artist page it will be offsetted.

When the client enters this error-state a restar does not help. But it helps to change artist page.

This has been a weird issue for a few releases, appears to be completely random. Sometimes a quick log out and back in again will cure it.

No, restarting the client doesn't help. So there must be some state that persist between the sessions for the client.

But it actually helps to change to another artist page.

If you try to play a song from the "Popular" list it will play a song from the first album instead, could it be that you fail to account for the "popular" as an "album" sometimes?

Same problem as everyone else!

I Select one track, and it plays another on some other album.

I'm getting pretty frustrated, looks like I'm going to cancel my (pay) account and move on.

Hi @mr_Green have you already given a clean reinstallation a try? Could you let us know the operating system on your computer?

Hi guys! Could you confirm which troubleshooting steps you've already tried?

Is this continuing after you sign out/ sign in? How about after you do a clean reinstallation

In this day and age, it can be seen as demeaning to tell people to take steps such as:

"restart the program"

"restart the computer"

"reinstall the program"

Assume that the majority of people have tried these things, and the problem is not them, it's your program.

@JPGJPG - You would be surprised how many people won't have tried anything before posting here. I wouldn't see it at demeaning, rather making sure all of the basics are covered before troubleshooting further. If you have already tried those steps and are still having issues, then just say so. 🙂

@Peter

"Is your computer plugged in?"

"Is the mouse securely connected to your computer's USB or mouse port?"

"Are you sure you clicked the song you intended to play?"

LoL. So helpful. As if this thread is not proof enough that this is happening on a wide range of devices and operating systems.

Windows 7, 64 bit.

Reinstallation is a bad advice for this bug, if you read my previous posts there is a much easier workaround. No go fix the bug instead.

Marked as solution

For all of you Linux users out there (this may apply to Windows too), I've solved the issue on my desktop. Follow the steps below.

1. Make sure you have exited Spotify and there is no instance of it running.

2. Open your terminal and run the following command, which will remove all of the config files for the logged in user.

rm -r ~/.config/spotify/

3. Start Spotify and try double playing a track. Spotify will automatically re-create the files you've just deleted with the above command.

If you are able to locate the config files in Windows and delete the folder, this may work for Windows too. I suggest looking in your user's app data folder which can be found by holding down the windows button and pressing the "R" button. Just type in %APPDATA% and the folder will open.

I hope this helps someone!

Hey @JPGJP A clean reinstallation has already worked for this user here. In order for us to rule everything out and continue to help troubleshoot we have to go through the basic steps first.

If you've already done a clean reinstallation please let us know so we can continue looking into this one. Thanks!

I just today started having this same problem with the desktop client running under Windows 7 Pro. On an Artist Page, double-clicking on a given album launches play of the next albumn in the array, and double-clicking on a given track launches the same numbered track on the next album. I tried uninstalling and then re-downloading and installing the lastest app. This seemed to work the first time I ran the app, but after quitting and restarting, the problem reappeared. Odd that I've been using the client app since August and this problem only now appeared. Has there been a recent update to the client software that might have been applied automatically without my being aware of it? I ran a bunch of Windows updates recently, but the fact that Mac users are having this same problem would seem to rule out Windows as a suspect. I'm guessing it's some sort of issue with an array pointer in the server code, but I'm not a software engineer so how would I know?

This is an annoyance, but at least I can still listen to music. Spotify Rocks!

Thanks for a great service.
