Spotify stops after each local song

Solved!

Spotify stops after each local song

Hello,

I've got a problem with playing local files in spotify. After each song it stops playing. This weirdly enough is only the case for local songs and not for steamed songs.
I think it might have something to do with a windows update. When I found out, two days ago, I recovered my system to the state before the windows update, and then it worked again. Last night it automatically updated windows and same problem of not continuous playing occured again.

Someone with a solution? It is really annoying!

Cheers!

I wanted to add my gripe to the pile of gripes here. I have tried all the solutions offered re: codecs and reinstallations but nothing works. spotify still stops playing after each local song and it's driving me up the walls.

fix needed asap.

Yep just to bump this again, I have this problem. Everytime I play from my local files it doesn't play the next track and I have to double click the song to play it. Not cool when trying to listen to an album!

Spoiler

I despair of one day where I could read a response and especially a proven solution 😉

Seems like it's happening to more and more users.  They should have solved this problem months ago.  Amazing Spotify won't publically acknowledge the problem even exists.

Oh, for crying out loud, Spotify... Fix this issue already!

I'm also having this problem and have tried all the above "fixes".

Get on it please spotify

Hello,

We're still unable to replicate it on a Mac or Windows machine... If you're playing directly from the Local Files list, try dragging a selection of files into a playlist and seeing if this happens from local file to local file here.

We've already been through this David. The problem does still exist in playlists. Surely the number of posts in this thread illustrates that this is a serious problem, and the fact that it does not occur when "downgrading" to previous versions indicates that the problem is with the Spotify desktop application and not with codecs etc.

problem persists whether files are played from library, from local files or in a playlist. I've had to unlink tracks in playlists to get them to play past the first track.

files are on the same harddrive as the spotify installation, quicktime is up to date, hardware acceleration has been toggled on and off (neither works), extra codecs don't help.

and it does seem I'm not alone.

Just making sure. Although it's still strange that we're unable to get this too. Are any other media programs open at the same time?

No, no other media programs open for me. Have even tried disabling scrobbling to Last.fm. The problem happens constantly, regardless of any other programs being open, preference settings, file types, etc.

David,

The problem occurs on both Windows and Mac, as well as mobile Spotify, on both my android phone AND my ipod. I doubt it has anything to do with other programs being open, or something as trivial as that. I think the problem is somewhere deep in your servers...

Hi David,

I've closed all media programs, have no devices connected either physically or over wifi and have frequently use playlists to organise my local files.

I can't think of anything that correlated with the change to it stopping after each track. To give a more accurate description of what happens: Track reaches end, next track is selected, shows in bottom left corner but then nothing happens. The grey dot does not start moving along the track and no audio is produced.

Hope this helps.

The problem persist here as well. We have like 10 computers (Linux, Windows, Mac) and the funny thing is, on every computer it works fine, except on this one Acer Aspire laptop.

It has latest (quite fresh installation actually) 64 bit Windows, latest Spotify, local files on computer. My other desktop PC (64bit Windows 7) and other HP Pavilion laptop (64bit Windows 7) have local files from LAN network (from my suse-Linux box). The Spotify even works on Linux through wine, as well as on the experimental Linux app. Spotify works on Mac Mini perfectly fine too, with local files.

What causes this, I really don't know, since there's no way to debug, is there. Re-installation doesn't work and neither does any trick other users have tried on this forum. I'm not sure if the Windows re-installation would help, but not going to do that only because of Spotify that doesn't work on one computer. Too bad my wife mostly uses that laptop and wants to listen everything with the same software. Now if she wants to listen mp3s, she would have to install different software for that.

Haven't tried local files on Spotify mobile app, but that's not the issue here for me.

Jermophobe - Hmm, I haven't experienced this at all when using Local Files on a Mac over the past few weeks. I'll try a Windows machine too and see if I can force this to happen.

Another question for you all - Are you all on a paid subscription?

Yes. Paying 9,99 euros every month 🙂

Exactly like that!

Just a thought. Do you have any Spotify remote application installed on your computer at all?

On Macs, this could be called "SIMBL". Try the following -

1. Delete the entire folders from the following locations:
- Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/SIMBL
- [USER FOLDER]/Library/Application Support/SIMBL
2. Uninstall Spotify
3. Restart your computer
4. Install Spotify

Yep paid!

re:  Spotify remote application - I don't, no.

I am also on a premium subscription

I'm also a paid subscriber.
