Spotify web refreshes page as I'm typing in the search bar

My Question or Issue

This seems to be a new problem where the spotify web player refreshes as I'm typing, and is super aggressive about searching before I'm done typing. E.g. I tried searching for "DJ Got Me" by Maeta. By the time I've finished typing "dj got" the page refreshes with that as the search query and taking the focus out of the search bar. Not only does this lead to just getting wholly incorrect results as I don't get to finish my query, taking the focus out of the search bar is incredibly frustrating as I have to keep clicking back, just to type a single word before it does the same thing again. Please fix the search functionality, this completely ruins search.

Thanks for posting in the Community!

I get that you're having issues with the search bar functionality of our web player in your Chrome browser. Is this still the case for you, or this was rather something intermittent? I'm asking as I am not able to replicate this behavior on Chrome for myself at the moment. 

Please see if you Chrome browser needs updating and run all pending updates. Also clearing cache and trying to run the web player in a private/incognito window might be of help.

Hi @Kiril, I just tried in incognito and didn't have the issue, even after logging in (to validate that it wasn't some A/B test my account was part of). Which meant it was one of my extensions, and after trying them one by one I found out it was the Teleparty extension. Not sure why it was causing issues on Spotify so I'll file a bug with them, but thanks for pointing out a debug method!

I have the exact same problem but in the desktop app. Its incredibly annoying.

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.

To start investigating this behavior, would you mind confirming if you've already performed a clean reinstall of the app on your device? If not, we'd recommend following the steps mentioned in this article as it can be helpful in getting rid of any cache that might be causing trouble. 

If the issue persists, would you mind checking on a different device (using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out. 

Lastly,  include in your next response the OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.
