Anybody know how to get rid of the Spotify widget that appears next to the on-screen volume indicator when adjusting volume? It's very annoying.

For anyone else who landed here via Google, this solution may worked before but you can now disable it in Spotify's settings and without needing to change any files etc.:
I'm also looking for a way to disable this very intrusive widget.
I like this new widget, the only thing I don't like is that does not close with a mouse click out of the widget and I think it takes a long time to close
You can rename C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Windows.Media.MediaControl.dll to disable it. It works, but you need to claim ownership over the file, than change permissions, than rename. All a bit complicated...
and to rant again: why woud you but obstrusive buttons you have to click with your mouse on a control that can only be triggered via a keyboard shortcut and that tries to have a decently small footprint on the screen?!
