Spotify will not stay paused when connected to bluetooth speaker

My desktop spotify app wont stay paused when it is connected to my bluetooth speaker which is the Echo Dot. It seems to stay paused for 10-15 seconds at a time before returning to Play. I've also tried pausing from my phone app and it still then resumes after 10-15 seconds on my laptop. My laptop is a Samsung using Windows 10. I have read through some threads of this same issue, but I haven't seen any solutions. Does anyone know how to fix this?
