About a couple days ago my spotify decided it wasn't going to open. I click on the application, it bounces up and down but doesn't open. when I right click it, it comes up with 'application not responding'. I've just tried removing it and reinstalling it. the box with spotify in it appears and the spotify icon comes up again but still doesn't open. How can i fix this?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Same here!
Past week I had the same problem. Deleting Java on my Imac was the solution.
Today (monday) I start up my Mac again and Spotify keeps boucing again and freezes. Java isn't the problem anymore, because its no longer installed anymore since past week.
Alex
Clean install did NOT work, still bouncing spotify icon and freezes on install.
AlexSL & mmyte - Could you please both confirm which OS X you're using?
If you could include a screenshot of your app showing which version you're on it would also be helpful. If we need more info I'll drop you both a direct message.
I had the newest update working all day yesterday. This am made two attempts to open and it never initialized, stopped responding in less than two minutes. Is the service down again? This is so frustrating. I miss the days when spotify worked seamlessly. The new upgrade is one big fail so far. The old program and apps were much better. JMO
after a month of this happening, reading all threads i could, and doing everything advised, i downloaded an old version from http://mac.filehorse.com/download-spotify/ the version i downloaded august last year. 0.8.4.107 or something. iIT OPENED!!!!!!!!!!! FINALY!!!! dont know how long that will last though. i dont dare press "install the latest version" and i am going to do my best at not closing the app again. I need spotify to get me through exam revision! hope this works for some of you!!
sorry i should say aswell, as ive been suffering from the download dissapearing / going in trash.. press "go" hold in shift and alt, open library, and search spotify then it comes up.
I solved the problem setting spotify automatically start at boot. It run and never give problem.
Hello Meradith,
I'm using OSX 10.6.8. Which version of Spotivy I'm using i can't find out. The app doesn't startup at all. I suppose the latest version, because the version of past week has been updated since a startup of Spotify (which doesn't start-up at all)
Alex
Ok, I just mannaged to startup Spotify. I'm now on version 0.9.0.133.gd18ed589
After a view seconds playing, the app crashed again. I mannaged to start the app again and got to the preferences.
There I marked the option to not show any new music on the NEW-page.
Now the app has already played a view songs without crashes. I'm hopefully....

I tried installing an older version and it seemed to work. Today I was asked to restart spotify and now it doesn't work again. I really think I should get some sort of credit as I pay for the premium version and it still doesn't work. There was an attempt to help me, but that ball has been dropped. Come on guys, let's get some real support here. This is not working for a paid, subscribing customer... Not good.
The only way I can open up spotify is to uninstall and then reinstall, then it works like a charm until.... until I close app. The app fails to open (usually stays stuck on initialize) or hangs when trying to load activity feeds it becomes unresponsive/hangs.
If I go past the open initial screen by uninstalling and reinstalling it works. But if I try to open the downloaded and once used program.... nada happens or stuff hits the fan. High cpu usage going on.
I am seriously about ready to unsubscribe as a ;premium user. I am tired of not being able to use spotify. Or having to uninstalll and reinstalll, update, reupdate. The updates since 8.5 are horrid . The last three updats have gone from bad to worse. WTH can't your developers fix this pc client so it actually works. Why?
To make things even more frustrating, they just updated the android app for me today and I could not get on it. Just a big fat white screen. Lovely.
I am going on a vacation soon and I want to take my lists for offline listening with my mobile. It angers me to no end to pay for a prouduct that doesnt work. I have been more than patient. It is almost a month now since you guys took away 8.5 and replaced a great program with this program that is failing so many of your paying customers.
I guess I better start migrating my lists , as I have rhapsody. Their new updates have finallly surpassed rhapsody and rhapsody is far more reliable now than spotify. Like I wrote before, spotify has finally jumped the shark.
JMO don't make all of us launch onto the whats new page at start up, it is that page that is slow to load and buggy bloated. Fix that page and let us load up first on the last play list we heard (offline). Then let us decide when we want to go see the whats new/ home screen. And fix the artists page as they also are slow, laggy, buggy. MOA fix the program so it works for most users, most of the time at least. Friday is coming.... and I fear the next update to come along as with each one the thing becomes more unstable and unwieldy.
JMO as a very frustrated premium spotify subscriber.
All these posts seem to be from Mac OS users, I have this issue with my Windows * Vaio.
I can't even uninstal the app in order to reinstall any other version.
This has been nearly 2 weeks now, help me very soon please.

Hi, sorry, Windows 8.
Having the same problem, of course.
Have tried starting it up with wifi off, and the bootprocess freezes withing seconds. Have restarted my computer with Spotify set to automatic start, but no result.
Have reinstalled several times, and followed Meredith's guide on how to do a clean reinstall.
The difference for me is that I run OS X 10.8.3 and this problem started at 2 days ago. Premium user as well.
Well, same here but I am on OSX 10.7.5.
Spotify has been sitting with only the "Initializing..." window open and a spinning beachball for over five minutes now.
Have to force quit the application.
Totally unacceptable lack of quality in this product. Only application that misbehaves on my laptop...that should be a clue.
Having reviewed the processes in Task Manager, it would appear that explorer thinks that the program is working corrrectly. This is despite there being nothing viewable running on the desktop.
The uninstall procedure egg times out then does nothing, except for leaving an extra running process in TM.
My account runs perfectly on the web player, so there is no problem with my account; except for the fact that I am paying for a desktop based music service and getting notihng!
I don't think that I need to express my thoughts on how this is going to work out if it can't be fixed......
Harvoy, Woozzaa, Earpiece - Sorry to hear you're still having a bit of trouble.
Do you guys mind posting a screenshot to show which Spotify version you've got installed? We can keep investigating from there.
I can't give you a screen shot as I cannot get the application to launch at all!
Meredith: I use the latest version, I think. It says Version: 0.9.0.133.gd18ed589 anyways.
Harvoy: I'm noticing that you're running windows, but can't you check which version you use anyway? I'm on a mac, but I have a pc as well. I checked my current version of Spotify by going to the Control Panel --> Programs and functions, and there I could see which version i was running. That pc is running w7, but I hope you can do the same thing on your w8.
