My Question or Issue

When i launch the program and start a song right away, it will start playing for 2-3 seconds and then i get a loop and second 2-3 are played again, but the song will not start  completely from the beginning, then it plays normally and so do all songs afterwards.

except if i choose another playlist for example and start another song manually, then it will happen again.

but also not always, sometimes it works sometimes not.

never seen this problem before, until i updated the porgram today.

is this a known issue? i couldnt find anything.

thanks

I did as you have specified, did all the steps specified. Found no Spotify related addresses. Also did a clean reinstall (again, as I did it before posting too), still no change - the problem still persists...

There was no old caches as I searched AppData and Roaming too

I have the same problem. Allmost every song skips like a broken CD. It started a few days ago. Im using the app for Windows 10.

This is also happening with me as well.

Hello,

I have the same problem and I've tried everything you told us to do. There are no spotify lines here in the hosts file as you can see in the screenshot.
I also tried the clean reinstall and did every step on the Windows 10 part and even after that the issue is still there, it still happens when I choose a song or when I skip a track with shuffle enabled.

Also I tried to do the same on Spotify Web and there weren't any issues. I've been using Spotify Desktop app for almost 4 years and I've never experienced this.

Thank you for your attention

Downloading from the website and install, it will still do the same.

Spotify wasn't in the Hosts file and I've tried reinstalling, problem still persists

Hi folks,

Thank you for your replies.

Could you also let us know what troubleshooting steps you've tried so far? If you haven't already, try the following (Note: you'll have to re-download your tracks for offline listening):

  1. Fully close the Spotify app (make sure it's not running in the Task Manager) and go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\.
  2. There you'll find a file called prefswhich holds information about the currently logged in account. Simply delete it.
  3. While in the Spotify folder, you'll also find a folder Users. Open it and delete its contents as well.
  4. Restart the Spotify app.

Let us know how it goes.

In my case there's no such folder.

However, I went on spotify preferences and found:

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\SpotifyAB.SpotifyMusic_zpdnekdrzrea0

I have completely deleted it. It was solved during the first play of a song.
The second play (which I presume comes from cache) it starts looping again.
It is only the song looping, the progress bar stills running forward. If I seek back, to the time that the loop happened, it plays normally.

My system:

Spotify for Windows
1.1.81.604.gccacfc8c

Im having the same problem as well, tried contacting customer service, and have done literally everything that they have suggested to fix the problem but none works. And I 100% know that its spotify's fault that this is happening and very much suspect its because of this current update cause it wasnt happening before. Fix this please

Tried it. Made no difference. It's a proper bug that's not going to be fixed by "turning it off and then on again". Please investigate it on your end.

strongly agree with you, i sometimes think how tf they became this popular with poor costumer service, stupidly odd bugs and the most stupid solutions for bugs like i get likes, i deleted and still not solved how what will change if i delete the files from the %appdata% file? I did this odd deleting twice and every time at %appdata% file, the spotify files will be gone, and same thing for the local ones i wish i could use an another app, but in Turkey spotify is the one app that is accesible to most songs, i hope they fix these

Hi there folks,

Thanks for posting about this in the Community.

In order to get to the bottom of it, could you let us know if this only happens on the desktop app?
Test it out with the Web Player and the mobile app if you can and let us know how it goes! We'd also need to know your Spotify versions on the platforms where it's repeating and if you have Windows OS, we'd need to know if you've downloaded the app from the Microsoft Store or our website.

We'll be on the lookout for your response.

Many thanks!

Hi,

I've just checked it out and this issue only happens on the desktop app and not on the Web player nor on my android app. I'm pretty sure I've downloaded the app from the Windows Store. This started out of nowhere and I'm not aware if the app had an automatic update at some point this/last week. My Spotify Windows version:
1.1.81.604.gccacfc8c

I hope this issue gets solved soon and thanks.

Hey there @AmbassadorLaZer and @Foma3,

Thanks for keeping us posted on this!

It's currently not possible to disable automatic updates. You'll keep getting the prompt to update and restart the Desktop app if there is a newer version available.

The newest versions have the latest updates and security patches so we always recommend keeping the app up to date.

In the meantime, you can try removing the app and installing the version from the Microsoft Store, if you've been using the version of the app from our website until now, or vice-versa if it's been the other way around.

Let us know how it goes!
We'll be on the lookout for your response.

Cheers!

Hey @Ominious,

Thanks for the reply.

In order to look into this further, can you provide us with the following info:

  • Windows version
  • Spotify app version
  • Are you running the app from the MS Store or from the Spotify website
  • A short video recording of the issue. You can attach it to your answer or as a link to Youtube if the file is too big.

Keep us in the loop.

Hi again folks,

Thank you for all of the troubleshooting you've done so far. Great job!

Can you try with a different internet connection to see if it makes any difference?

On another note, can you let us now if it's a specific playlist/song that this give you this behavior or if it's all playlists/ songs in general?

We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

Take care 🙂

Hello. Solution didn't work.

104.199.240.237

Not sure if this is coincidental to this unresolved issue, but I noticed every time I clicked on the play button, my computer will interact with the IP above.

I had the same problem and re-installing worked.

Scratch that, it only worked for like 10 minutes, then the problem returned.

i'm beyond relieved that this isn't just a me issue - the way the song skips usually throws me right into a mild sensory overload, so i haven't been able to listen to music via the desktop app for a few days. really hoping this gets fixed soon.

can confirm the way the bug works - my music will play for a few seconds, and then loop one part like a broken cd. however, the playback bar will continue as normal. if i pause, the looping continues for a bit but then it will stop and the playback bar will return to where it was when the loop began. i've tried countless other troubleshooting tricks including logging back in, disabling certain settings and even reinstalling the entire desktop app and nothing has fixed it, so considering this and what everyone else has said it's most certainly a bug within the desktop app itself. again, really hoping it's fixed soon so i can listen to my music in peace.
