My Question or Issue
Spotify Desktop has suddenly started working really bad for me: the sound quality was appalling. When I play it from my phone, there are no problems so it's definitely not my speaker that is broken. When I play music from YouTube on my desktop with the same speaker, there is no problem either. I've tried selecting audio quality to be 'high' or 'very high' in the settings, uninstalling and reinstalling Spotify; opening and closing it; rebooting my computer. Nothing has worked so far.
Hi,
I have a 8meg video i can send of the issue, however it includes account names etc. Is there any way i can send this to you privately?
EDIT: Private message sent to @Yordan with video link.
@Yordan - Thanks for your time, but it seems to have magically fixed itself overnight. Not sure if there was a silent patch or something, because I did nothing!
Sound is now back to normal. I can only think it was corrupt windows codecs or drivers although no updates happened.
Will remain a mystery unless it happens again.
This!
all of a sudden music sounds like its being played on low quality and soundstage has been halved. no settings changed, comparing to tidal it is night and day.
Previously i've heard no difference between high quality spotify and hifi tidal but atm it is a complete curbstomp. something is wrong with spotify
have my ears had a revelation, spotify sounds like complete**bleep** compared to tidal right now
This solved it for me, thanks! The setting was in System Settings/Sound Mixer Options for those who need it.
This is the fix. For some reason there were two almost identical headphones in the Windows sound settings. Selecting the one with "stereo" fixed the sound quality issues immediately.
I have experienced the same issue while playing my Spotify music through a Denon receiver output device. The problem occurs when I click the 'Denon receiver' as a output device from SPOTIFY on my Apple laptop. The music is very muted,
garbly (sorry for a slang word) and sounds horrible. My fix is this: don't use the output device tab in Spotify. Instead, I go to the volume control on my laptop and click the 'Denon receiver' tab there. The audio sounds fine when I configure it that way. Good luck!
