This song is not available. If you have the file on your computer you can import it.

Solved!

This song is not available. If you have the file on your computer you can import it.

Spotify is not allowing me to play any songs from my desktop. The error message "This song is not available. If you have the file on your computer you can import it." pops up in blue at the top of the screen. I am able to play from my phone's spotify app. I am definitely hooked up to the internet and I have definitely paid for the premium subscription. I am using Windows 7 OS and a Lenovo ThinkPad. I closed and restarted spotify and the problem persists. Any solutions to this problem? Thanks.

Hey @drewsullivan87, do you have the songs saved to your hard drive on your desktop? Try opening the file directly from the folder using another music service (itunes/winplayer/etc). Does the file play there? Has the file changed names or location within in your harddrive?

The songs are not saved to my harddrive - I am simply attempting to stream the music online through Spotify.

@drewsullivan87: is the artist or album information greyed out on the track you are trying to play? It sounds like you may have found an unavailable track that has been removed from Spotify due to licensing issues or by artist request. You have a couple of options here:

1. if you happen to own the track separately, you can add it to your playlist using local files stored to your harddrive.

OR,

2. if you would like Spotify to hide unavailable tracks so that you don't even see them, you can go into your settings using the drop-down arrow next to your username. Under "Display Options" toggle off the setting for "Show unavailable songs in playlists."

You won't be able to stream unavailable songs unless they also exist in your personal collection outside of Spotify.

If you have downloaded the playlist to your mobile device previously for offline use, this is probably why you can still play it from that device.

i'm having this problem too (on win10) i have checked to not show unavailable songs, tried many different songs and artists, all of which  had been able to play this morning. Tried a song saved to my computer (that i uploaded to a playlist) and that won't play. Also same problems for songs I downloaded from spotify.

Tried with web player, one song showed to be playing but didn't make any sound and then i tried to go to next song and it stopped

I can't play any song for a week on my home desktop PC win 8.1

Please do like somethin already, most of these posts remained unreplied.

on Windows desktop. And having the exact same problem - but only trying to stream certain artists - Lana Del Rey, Katy Perry, Killers, etc... don't understand at all.

Download the earlier version to fix this problem: http://www.filehorse.com/download-spotify/32265/

This is a new issue with the new 1.0.65 update. Only solution is to install an earlier version or use the web player: https://open.spotify.com/

I'm also seeing this on Mac for certain artists. Can't play anything by Kendrick Lamar at the moment. Spotify version 1.0.65.320. Very annoying...

That's good news. How exactly do you downgrade?
