My Question or Issue

I wanted to open a Spotify account and tried using a browser on desktop computer. No one in family should have one. My wife and I share an email address. When I tried to create the new account it said the email address was in use. I said I forgot my password and reset whatever password was there, created new password. Logged in. Somehow my wife's facebook account information is in the Spotify account (Picture, Gender, Birthdate). She did not intentionally create a spotify account.

I searched help on Spotify and did the following:

1) downloaded the Spotify app and looked at V Settings>Social - nothing there about facebook.  (2) Opened her facebook account. Checked her apps and didn't see Spotify. (3) Viewed her facebook logins and logged out of all devices. Then logged off from the facebook browser window I was in.  (4) Closed all spotify windows and apps. (5) Cleared browser cache.

Logging on to spotify again, from browser or app, information is still there and I cannot edit it.

I don't know how this account got created in the first place. I did NOT loggin with facebook - I logged in with an email address. I'd like to decouple my spotify account from my wife's facebook account. Can I somehow just delete the Spotify account and create a new one? Or is there some other path? Is the fact that we share an email address causing the problem.

Hi @ric982,

thanks for reaching out to the community !

There are a few things i believe i should address in your post:

1. Premium Family - In order to have a functioning Premium family account each of the members should have their own private account.

Then and only then, they will be able to accept the invite and join the plan (each member should do the process on his own device)

You can visit this support page and have all the info needed for the process.

2. Facebook & Spotify - If your Facebook account got linked to your Spotify account and you want to opt out, please make sure to visit your account overview page here, click the "Privacy" tab on your left menu and disable the "Process My Facebook Data" tab

3. If you're still having issues with the current account and your want to create a new one, you can always use this Spotify answer and learn how to transfer your data safely

Hope this shed some light.

Let me know if there's anything i can help with 🙂

Thanks Rock Star 16, but I'm not sure this helps because....
- I'm the only one in the household wanting Spotify. So I didn't want a Premium plan. I wanted a Free plan. There will only be one user here.
- I have already turned off the "Process My Facebook Data" switch. It did not make a difference - the profile still has my wife's gender and birthdate.
- I currently only use one email address so I can't create a new account unless I create a new email address. Although this is certainly possible, its one more thing I don't want to remember just to have a spotify account.

I will contact Spotify and see if they can delete the account for me.

Hi @ric982,

thanks for checking out my post !

My bad, as i misunderstood your issue.

Have you tried using this help page to disconnect the two ?

Thanks for your patience 🙂
