Was "create similar playlist" removed?

Was "create similar playlist" removed?

I've been using the "create similar playlist" function as a way to discover new music and its been such a great tool, much more effective than simply going to a song radio. I've only been able to use this function on my desktop but now can't even seem to do that on there now. Was this function completely removed? If so, that's a huge bummer.

Both my friend and I contacted Spotify support 2 days ago about the missing Create Similar Playlist feature cause of how crucial it is to have we use Spotify. We were both told that it was purposely removed, and my friend was told it was supposed to be replaced by the Smart Shuffle feature.

Here’s their post they started about it: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Create-Similar-playlist-gone/idc-p/5702117#M274202

Hi,

When it was working it appeared next to the original playlist or at the top of the playlists. It was easy to spot, so, if it does appear as an option to you, but it doesn't show after you have applied it, it means Spotify has disabled it. Disappointing.

Another call for this fantastic feature to be re-instated.

Another who can't believe this feature is gone. Does anyone know if Tidal has such a feature? Think I might make the switch... I know you can carry over playlists easily from what I've heard

Yes Spotify does not actually want us to discover new music. They only want to promote artists that pay them more. It’s becoming more and more clear

Just wanted to comment end of 2024 and say that smart shuffle is an awfully poor replacement for create similar playlist. When I want to create a similar playlist, I want an entirely different set of songs than the one on my playlist in order to discover new music. Smart shuffle does not provide that capability to me, and like others have noted, is rarely useful. The only use case for it that I've found is a playlist with a small number of songs (< 2 hours or so). Bummer.

I had the same problem. I thought of a solution that works quite well. Go to your playlist's 'radio'.  ( this is the generated playlist but in a less-easy-to-scrape form ). Quickly click next song a maximum of 50 times (but slowly enough to start each song shortly ). Go to Queue -> recently played items and copy the list to a new playlist. (It maxes out at 50).  Since this is a spotify forum I assume they will lock this as well since I told you here, bastards.

Please Spotify, bring this feature back!

BRING IT BACK! this was the best feature of Spotify!! So now I go to 3rd party websites to do what Spotify should be doing as I'm paying $18 a month for 2 accounts!
Unbelievable.
