What's New on Web player

What's New on Web player

I've logged into the Spotify web player for the first time in a while and noticed there's a What's New notification bell icon. This is brilliant and very handy on bigger screens. Any plans to add this to the Windows desktop app? Would be great.

Hi there @Jenjam,

Thanks for reaching out. This feature is already available on Desktop, just click the icon in the top right once more. Make sure your app is updated to the latest version to benefit from all the latest features.

Cheers!

Hi Joan

I don't see it. In the top right I have my profile picture and Friend Activity.

Thanks

Hey @Jenjam,

Can you send us a screenshot of how things look on your end? Also, what version of the app are you running?

Cheers,

Hi there

No problem.

Windows desktop app version:

Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.20.1218.g02aff7a4

To the left of my profile picture on the desktop app:

Thanks!

Hey there @Jenjam

Thanks for getting back to us.

In this case, we suggest that you log out and then log back in to your account on the desktop app twice in a row. This will trigger a sync between your account and device.

If this doesn't do the trick, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Eni

I tried those suggestions, but unfortunately they didn't work. Is there a setting somewhere where I can enable this or should it just appear?

Thanks

Hey @Jenjam,

There's no such setting unfortunately.

You can try installing an alternate version the app to see if that would make a difference though! 🙂

Hi Susan

No need - there was an update available for the Windows desktop and the icon is now showing after updating. I love this feature! Well done Spotify!

While I'm here, is there any chance the desktop app can remember filter option preferences on the What's New page, like we have with playlists? I'm not interested in podcasts and choose only to see only Music, but each time I exit What's New and go back in, it resets to Music and Podcasts & Shows.

Thanks!

Hi @Jenjam,

Thanks for your reply. We're glad to know everything is on order now.

For the moment, each time you go to the What's New feed, you must manually select the filter for Music or Podcast and Shows. However, we understand you'd like this to be remembered. We always aim to improve, so we’ll get this passed on to the right team.

On another note, if you feel like it, you can submit an idea, making sure you follow our Community guidelines. More info on how your feedback reaches Spotify via the Idea Exchange can be found here.
