My Question or Issue
nearly everytime i open the app or it opens on startup, the app will randomly skip through a bunch of songs, eventually stop on 1 after about 5-10 seconds. and then thats the only song i can play. unless i full restart my pc, and that doesnt even guarenteed fix the issue. i cant play any other songs, i cant start a jam or a playlist, if i try to skip songs, it will restart the randomly selected one. ive tried every fix i can think of and that ive found online. nothings worked. ive cleared cache, ive restarted app, and pc, ive deleted and reinstalled app, ive tried using the chrome and browser versions. ive tried offline mode. my phone app doesnt have this problem. and im not sure what else to do. please help. its been like this for weeks, ever since i built my new pc and switched to windows 11. side note, i didnt keep any old data from my old pc, i used a fresh ssd, and a new copy of windows 11, new everything.
thanks

okay so just in case anyone else has this SUPER SPECIFIC problem i wanted to post the answer here, because i solved it. it was somehow someway my stand mic, the at2020 usb version, which doesnt even make sense because it doesnt even have the ability to have audio play through it. apparently this mic can randomly have this issue, the solution is literally to just unplug it and plug it back in. anyways thanks for all the assistance, if this helps even one person then this has all been worth it lol.
Hey @codedvortex,
Thanks for reaching out on the Community! And kudos for including the troubleshooting you've tried 🙂
Does clearing your Windows hosts file following these steps make any difference? If possible, we recommended trying with a different internet connection as well.
Another thing which comes to mind is double-checking the device's sound drivers, as well as the audio settings of the device.
Should this behavior persist, however, could you let us know if this happens at any specific points? For example, when connected to a specific Bluetooth speaker or when using headphones?
Let us know how you get on!
Hello @Maria,
thanks for the suggestions but neither has helped unfortunately. its not the internet connection bcuz my phone and other devices work, its not my headphones specifically because it has the same issue when they arent connected. ive tried clearing the hosts file but there was nothing in the file labled spotify or otherwise, and i always tried updating every single audio related driver on my pc and they are all up to date. as far as i can tell theres a random chance everytime my pc is turned on, that spotify will decide to skip a couple songs nearly instantly, and then land on one song, and not let me play ANY OTHER SONGS, at ALL. even if they are downloaded and even if its in offline mode, searching other songs not already in my library also doesnt work. about 30% of the time ill turn on my pc and it will work fine. i have yet to figure out whats causing this and why its seemingly random. any other suggestions would be great. thanks again
Hey @codedvortex,
Thanks for the reply!
You did mention reinstalling the app already, but another thing that comes to mind is downloading it from a different place this time. If you've done that from the Microsoft Store so far, try doing it directly from the Spotify website and make sure to follow these steps for performing a clean reinstall. This way any damaged cache will be removed.
If possible, can you log in on a friend or relative's PC to see if the same issue persists there? This way we can check if it's the desktop app that's causing this overall or if it's just device-related. I'd also recommend flushing DNS and restarting the app:
Keep us posted.
Hello @dessi
ive tried both install methods and neither has worked, i also just tried flushing dns and ending task and restarting and that also didnt work, however it did change the song it was stuck on, but thats random everytime i seem to start my pc anyways so not sure if that means much
Thanks for testing, @codedvortex 👍
Just to confirm, you get the same behavior on the Web Player too, correct? If so, I'd recommend trying out all troubleshooting steps from this article. Also, make sure Spotify isn't being restricted by your Firewall/antivirus program.
Let us know how it goes.
hello @yordan
i checked before but i double checked both of those things just now. spotify is allowed to get through windows firewall, and also the webplayer indeed has the exact same issue. i know earlier in the thread i mentioned that it was random chance when it would work, but it hasnt worked properly for over a week now. every time i boot up my pc i have this issue.
Hey there @codedvortex,
Thanks for all your replies and for the info shared.
In this case, we'd like to check, are you using a VPN service? If yes, we'd recommend switching it off. Keep in mind Spotify doesn't officially support VPN. This means that issues with the app while using VPN are expected behavior.
You can also try:

i am not using a vpn, would a video of the issue help? im starting to lose faith its a fixable problem
Hey @codedvortex,
Thanks for the reply!
Yes, it'd be very helpful if you can send us a screen recording so that we can have a closer look. If the file is too large to attach, you can upload it to Google Drive (make sure to allow general access to the file) or as an unlisted YouTube video.
Could you let us know if you've tried @AlejaR's suggestions? It'd also be great if you can share the Spotify version you're currently running.
We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
@dessi
i did try those suggestions yes, i am using the windows version of spotify,
spotify for windows,64 bit, 1.2.61.443.gc51c574b
ive tried downloading from every source i can too.
heres the video showcasing the problem, it is now happening every single time i ever open the app, it also does it on the browser version too. i included my spotify settings at the end so everyone can see what settings i have on, maybe its an easy fix.

Hey @codedvortex,
Thanks for the video!
I've checked the thread and I see there's a few things we haven't tried yet:
Let us know how it goes.
I did find this post: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Windows/Spotify-app-skips-songs-repeatedly-without-input/m-...
that looks like it has the issue. But the fix listed did not help.
Sometimes a restart fixes the issue, but most of the times i just need to wait it out.^
none of this helped either
Hey @codedvortex,
Thanks for the reply. We've gone ahead and reported this to our teams, so we'll keep you posted as soon as we have any news.
@Double_K, thanks for joining the conversation! Make sure to send over all the info from your affected devices, along with the app versions so we can report it as well. Also, check out the other troubleshooting suggestions from this thread and give them a try if you haven't already.
Cheers!
