My Question or Issue

Hello,

about 2 weeks ago Spotify didn't work anymore as I tried to open it. There is only this button where it says something went wrong and you should try to refresh but after hitting it nothing happens. I already tried several times to reinstall it and there it says that my firewall may block Spotify with the error code auth:15 but I deactivated all my firewalls and updated my PC with all drivers and still nothing happened. Please help.

Hi again @presidentevil,

Thanks for getting back in touch and for the extra info.

This suggests that this is indeed related to your PC. You can try clearing your hosts file by following the steps in this article. Even though its title is related to a different topic, you'll find the steps to follow after scrolling down a bit.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Hey @presidentevil,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Community .

Just to confirm, have you tried a clean reinstall of the Spotify app on your device? We recommend the steps in that guide, as they’re very thorough and make sure no damaged leftover files remain. We'd then recommend making sure that you're located in the same country as your Spotify account. You can check out these steps to find out how to change your country settings.

Also, keep in mind that some shared or public networks (e.g. schools/work/office) restrict access to certain services. If you're connected to one you can contact those responsible for managing the network for more information.

Additionally, if you're using a VPN we'd recommend disabling it, as VPNs aren't officially supported by Spotify and we can't guarantee proper functionality if one is used.

Keep us posted how you get on.

Cheers.

Hello,

thanks for replying. I tried again to do a clean reinstall as your instructions told me but I didn't found any leftover data or folder from Spotify. Additionally, I checked my country which is the right one and don't use any VPN. Actually, it works on my mobile device but somehow not on the Computer's Desktop App or any other web browser.

Hi @presidentevil

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you give it a try using a different internet connection to see if you notice anything new?

If possible, you could also give it a try with another computer.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Hello,

sorry for the late response. I tried it now on a different Desktop and there it worked with the same internet connection but still not with my PC. I really suppose that the problem is somewhere in my computer's system and I cannot figure out where... Do you know another way which could fix it?

Yes! It was actually an entry in the hosts file I deleted with Notepad++ and now it works again! Finally... Many thanks! :))
