My Question or Issue

So after I found out that it's currently impossible to add local music to Spotify on the Windows 10 Desktop App, I tried a different way to get my local files onto my Spotify. I found one with the current version of the App Apple IOS. Here you can find in the settings the option to import my music from my IPhone onto my Spotify.

I thought that would solve my problem. It did to a degree.

I stumbled onto an interesting problem on the Desktop Version with this tactic:

All my added local files from my phone are now at least visible in my playlists on both devices and they work perfectly on my phone

But on my desktop they are grey, so I cannot select them to play. But I can remote control my desktop version with my phone and some of my local files can be played on my desktop-version. But this only works for some and not for all of them. For the songs that cannot be played on the Desktop-Version (although it's being remote-piloted by my phone) it says the usual: "Spotify cannot play it, but if it's on your PC you can import local files" ,which of course I can't because the feature is currently missing on the Desktop Version

Does anyone have an idea, why Spotify seems to accept some of my local files on the Desktop-Version, but accepts all of them on my phone?

Thank you for the clarification @Explorer_616!

Sorry for the confusion - the option to add local directly from mobile is also in its test stages and it's not available to all users.

Could you try following the steps here to see if you'd be able to sync up all songs?

We'd also recommend using a different network to try and sync them up, for example you can create a hot spot on your phone and use that network.

Lastly, we'd recommend making sure that the files aren't DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected.

Keep us posted on how it goes, we'll be here if you need more help.

Hey there @Explorer_616!

Thanks for reaching out to us on the Community!

Right now the desktop version that doesn't allow you to add Local files is part of a Spotify test and our teams are working on improving the features of that version.

We're always testing new things in order to gather feedback on different features, you can learn more about that here

Currently it's not possible to opt-out of this test but if you'd like to see the Local files feature back you can leave a +Vote here.

We can't recommend using third party apps to import files into Spotify as we can't guarantee their functionality.

We hope this info helps. We'll be here if you have any other questions.

I did not use a third party app to import my local files. I did that with the spotify IOS App, which still has that feature (and that is good). That is also the reason, why I made this post the begin with., because I already knew about these tests. It was just weird to me, that on my phone ALL my local files work comepletely, but only a few of them work on my PC, which doesn't make a lot of sense in my opinion. Files that work on one medium, should work on all the other mediums as well
