[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I'm paying for a Family Subscription, yet have NO WAY to control whether my 7 year old hear to the F-words, N-words, etc. in songs she may search for.

I know Spotify doesn't really care about kids and families, because this should've been a number one concern befor they launched a product aimed at the whole family (and not just 20-something hipsters).

If I cant make sure my son or daughter wont hear explict words in the music when listening to Spotify.  I will cancel my subscription instead of letting them hear the junk.

I just had an idea. Everyone has a simple way of controlling what their children can hear. You can let your kid listen to their own playlist and every now and then, you can go through and remove any explicit songs they might've added. There is a way to filter what your kids hear, you just need to put a little effort into it.

Has nothing to do with just kids or effort. It is a feature that was once
available, no longer is available and needs to be.

It's not just about my kids creating their own playlist, and by the way I don't know how many modern parents that have the time to listen to their kids entire playlist on a regular basis. It's also about me subscribing to Spotify playlist and listening to them at home or in the car, or even at work. Why can't I just tick a button?

You don't have to manually listen to all the songs in a playlist to single out the explicit ones. Just scroll through the playlist quickly and remove all explicit songs you come across. The tick button's out of the question because Spotify's lazy as all **bleep**. I'm just trying to express a way to censor your children's music yourself rather than relying on Spotify to cater to your needs.

Last time I tried it wasn't possible to edit a playlist

OK. I did it.   I canceled my spotify premium and sent a note to premium@spotify.com letting them know that I need a way to filter explicit songs.   Moved to Apple Music and will see how that works for the next little while.  It actually caused friction with me and my ex over what I was exposing my under 10 year old kids to. 😕

Well done, especially for making them aware. I'm at the end of my tether and will do the same shortly. In an email conversation with support. Who asked if u wanted to leave? Then said it wasn't possible for them to add an explicit button, but I could start a thread on the forum asking for it to be added? I said there are 3 already running totalling 9000 votes, how many do you need? Shows they don't care!
