[AutoPlay] Option to toggle Autoplay on/off across all devices/platforms

The Autoplay setting isn't working for connected devices and the web player. We need the Autoplay setting to work the same as it does on desktop and when playing on the phone.

Updated on 2023-02-07

Hey folks,

The "Autoplay" setting was recently updated. The single "Autoplay" setting in the desktop and mobile apps will now enable or disable Autoplay across all devices on your account. This change makes it easier to manage instead of there being 2 different settings.

You only need to change the Autoplay setting in one of the apps, either desktop or mobile, and it will apply to your account on all devices including the Web Player and Spotify Connect devices.

You can read the support article for more information about the Autoplay feature.

Hi everyone,

The version that includes the new setting fix (1.1.74.625) is rolling out gradually. It shouldn't be more than a couple of days until everyone has it. If you already installed the app, it will update automatically.

Don't worry about missing it, it will be available to every user.

@swansnow  - You don't need to use the desktop app if you don't want to. After you've configured your preferred Autoplay setting, you can uninstall it again. (Please give it at least 15 minutes to ensure the setting syncs up to the servers and confirm it works with your preferred device before uninstalling.)

We're working on adding the setting to the mobile apps as well.

Have a good weekend!

Use Wi-Fi speaker for playlist at bedtime so want the playlist to finish not have Spotify playing extra stuff till morning seems a crazy idea not to be able to have same settings as the phone which has autoplay off

I tried the suggestion of changing the command in my routine to play X playlist for X minutes but it didn't work. Hurry up Spotify and sort it out!

2 day since your announcement and still no fixed version available. Why are you fooling us? I would share my cloud for you if you do not have enough server-capacity for the roll-out... Send me the file and I will share it for everybody.

It's very frustrating!! I used to ask google home to play a music and the autoplay did the work playing correlated next music!! A perfect use case for me!! This function suddenly stopped some months/weeks ago!! Now, it plays only the requested music, even the Autoplay turned on in Spotify App. I'm noticing that integration between Spotify and google home devices is getting worse with a very low effort from Spotify to improve it. Unfortunately, I'm going to test Youtube Music and get out of Spotify if I get a better service and integration over there.

@Elena

Can you confirm this feature will be on ALL desktop versions, so will be on Linux desktop app as well? Or is it a windows feature only?

Suddenly removing the ability to turn off autoplay has been irritating me profusely for weeks and it is even more irritating that there appeared to be a way to do it, which had been greyed out which meant I spent ages wasting time trying to find a solution.
Poor form from Spotify on more than one count. You are on notice.

So autoplay used to reflect the settings on desktop. Then they made it so that autoplay was always on for connected devices and called it a "feature" instead of a bug. Then they added a "feature" (bug fix) to turn this off. This bug fix worked for a day or two, and now it looks like we are back to step zero again. There are a bunch of random tracks now added onto my chromecast playlist again that I don't want, which disappear when I move back to my computer (which is what my queue should look like). Thanks billion-dollar company.

Do you have a timeframe for this being resolved on mobile? This is absolutely making Spotify unusable for me, and making me consider what other streaming options exist

I also tried to download the latest desktop version, and apparently it's not the version with a fix 😞

Am I understanding that updating the setting on desktop will also fix the behaviour on mobile? If so, do you have a timeframe for receiving the updated desktop app?

@Elena

This bug was resolved for a while but it is happening again, could the team at Spotify fix it properly?
