Close Button Closes Spotify [Windows]

Or at least minimize it to a tray Icon. But I would say close it. Maybe this is more of an opinion, but I've only used 2 programs that are this bad. Skype and Spotify. And Skype is a really bad program.  So I don't know why in Spotify, the Close and Minimize button do the same exact thing. I would like a quick way to close the program and stop the musik.  This is mainly a problem for me on Windows 7 and I believe linux is very similar.

Hey everyone. This feature was implemented for Windows users in our latest update (1.0). You can read more about this update here. Thanks for your kudos and feedback here in the Idea Exchange.

Add this option and we're all happy.

artists get more if you're premium subscriber. It's only free plays that are lower quality with adverts in between that pay them less royalties, along with mobile radio as you're not in control of what you listen to with radio. Blame the labels if they're not passing over the correct royalties to artists.

PS I'm all for them fixing the annoying close X problem. The same with right clicking spotify on taskbar and selecting close - it don't work!

I just kinda... opened the task manager, selected spotify, hit end task, hit it again, hit it again, hit it again... it eventually went away. 😕

@Sam, any response? This breaks the most basic element of Windows UI.

Spotify, please fix this.

This really isn't a hard thing to do. I don't know what was used to make Spotify as far as an environment goes, but in Visual Studio, the X button closes a window by default, which means it's actually more work to make it minimize instead...

The only other program I use that minimizes with X is Skype. Thus I avoid Skype whenever possible. Don't make me stop using Spotify because of this as well. I don't want to have to run a taskkill command every time I want to do what the X button should have done to begin with.

Close button (X) should close the window and thus the app. otherwise it is cheating and violation of user interface ethics. X marks closes all windows in the world except spotify. why?

how many clicks we need to do to get spotify out of my memory? I am paying a monthly fee to use it. So what difference does it make for spotify, whether the app is running in my memory or not!

I request you to close the window when the close button is pressed. please do not redesign windows OS! please

I really don't think this is a mistake or coding problem on the part of Spotify. They used to have this option in Preferences (something along the lines of a checkbox with "Minimize to tray when closed" next to it), and now it's no longer there. Seems to me they just really want to make it difficult to stop Spotify. I know it's a small issue, but it's definitely the primary reason I choose not to use Spotify with any regularity.

Every other windows application ever? When was the last time you downloaded a program? The 90's? This method of operation has been part of the standard UI guidelines for Windows Apps since Microsoft introduced the Jump List feature with Windows 7.

Even before that, apps still minimized to the system tray in WinXP when you clicked the close button (Winamp, Last.fm and basically every other app that runs in the background for example).

It's not really that hard to right click the taskbar icon or the system tray icon and choose 'Quit Spotify'.

Skype does the same thing. If you click the close button and the app minimizes. Either right click the taskbar icon or the system tray icon and choose 'Quit Skype'.

Steam does the same thing. If you click the close button and the app minimizes to the system tray. Either right click the taskbar icon or the system tray icon and choose 'Exit Steam'.

Every other windows application ever? No. You are ridiculous.

Like I said before, this is pretty standard for many apps nowadays. Windows 7 came out over 3 years ago. If you are running something older, you get minus 9000 internet points.

I bet you lot are the ones who complain whenever facebook make changes that improve the site layout. Embrace change. It's good for you.

DoubleUB

Agree with this. It's very annoying! Same as with Skype/Steam/etc. 3 apps using this method out of a billion apps  which don't doesn't make it a standard.

X means close, kill process. Period.

Hello there! I just merged another idea to this one since it was requesting the same thing. I have added the kudos, that is why the amount has increased.

We are working on this idea, we will get back to you as soon as we get news.

Thanks a lot for your contribution 😉
