Close Button Closes Spotify [Windows]

Or at least minimize it to a tray Icon. But I would say close it. Maybe this is more of an opinion, but I've only used 2 programs that are this bad. Skype and Spotify. And Skype is a really bad program.  So I don't know why in Spotify, the Close and Minimize button do the same exact thing. I would like a quick way to close the program and stop the musik.  This is mainly a problem for me on Windows 7 and I believe linux is very similar.

I was going to just angrily state that I'm leaving spotify over (mostly just) this topic and the response to it. I read "case Closed" followed with "it does not fit out our user experience philosophy" as "screw you" in nice public relations language.

But I then read Peter's post just a little before this about how spotify works* in a p2p way. That actually makes sense! I can understand and respect a reasonable reason like that. But you have to be upfront and honest about it, most importantly in a direct response like this. (preferably I would like the close button to just say something to the effect of asking people to keep it open rather then just ignoring them, as that  feels high-handed and insulting, but I can see reasonable arguments against that too given that the request method relies on charity where as the current method relies more on apathy/ignorance. (and the assumption of the later, sadly, being much more prevalent then the former))

I guess what I'm saying is this support thread is poorly handled, where the actual issue is merely just annoying (enough for me to search for it specifically and find this), I didn't actually get mad until I got to the response here. You should just be honest that leaving it on helps run spotify in general, and most everybody will accept it as part of the gig. At least they will understand the underlying reasons and psychology of why it's the way it is. That way if they disagree with it, it's their problem.

* if I ever find out that that's not the reason and that the real one isn't a good one...

ok then i guess i need to write a script and over ride the stupidity that is their user experience philosophy lol what a joke that is. I know that this is p2p i dont care x closes simple as that skype has a reason to stay open because a user could try to contact you. This hell no x is x and you can shove ur user experience philosophy where the sun dont shine.

I am posting this in order to get promoted to fan so i can add a "new idea" to add an option to make close button close the program. This behaviour is annoying, frustrating and under-handed.

I think your "user experience philosophy" amounts to ignoring your users.  How many more votes does it take for you to recognise that close button is a standard part of the Windows UI?  When folks click close they want to exit the application.  When they minimize, they may want it in the taskbar or system tray - many programs make that a user choice.

It's just silly design to force users to search around for the "hide from taskbar when closed" feature.  And it is arrogance to "close the case" when users don't agree with your silly design.

This is such a fail response. Close should close. I'm so fed up of having to find the damned icon in the tray, right clicking and clicking exit.

What's the point in even having a feedback system if you lock threads to stop them getting kudos?

You think it's design philosophy, I think it's a reason to move to another provider.

Add one more user who does not like this experience. 

We are all accustomed to red "x" in upper right-hand corner of application closing the application. This is design language which has been ingrained in us for the last 15+ years of windows. 

I am all for expanding that language and improving the user experience, but if you ask us to relearn an action I would hope there would be some benefit associated. I don't currently see a benefit of Spotify staying open when I try to close it. I would be open to hearing the Spotify team's explanation of the benefit (and hearing that might make me less annoyed every time I try to close the program, but just see that it minimizes).

Can I just comment that Spoify's response is completely silly.  People complain that their user experience suffers and they respond by saying that it improves user experience.  GImme a break.  Users judge user experience, not devs.
