[Country] Launch Spotify in Romania

I think that given the current alternatives:

- Zonga

- Deezer

- Apple Music (in the not-so-distant future)

Spotify would be wasting a chance to get further into the eastern market if it does not launch in Romania as well. There are already a lot of musicians from Romania on Spotify, which means that securing licensing agreements couldn't have been that hard. Furthermore, following the example of deezer which comes bundled with Orange voice contracts, respectively zonga and vodafone, I think that Spotify could seize this opportunity to secure a deal with Telekom and either bundle their services or just outright open here as well. It makes a lot of sense especially since Spotify opened in Hungary and Bulgaria as well. The expansion would only be natural and it would also further drive down the hated piracy phenomenon in the balkans and eastern europe. In the 21th century on a competing market, spotify's ease of use, multiplatform, streaming quality and array of artists would ensure a switch over from the other services to spotify. I was told by a Spotify support representative, a few months back that it is planned to launch Spotify in Romania as well, however, somehow, those plans changed, and the "official facebook page" was taken down, and now, the official position is that nobody knows when this is happening. I only want to know the truth, and use this service without resorting to all sorts of loopholes to enjoy it.

I think it's time people in my country are treated the same way others are all over europe. There's bad seeds everywhere, but I don't think everyone has to be held accountable for the actions of the few. If you demand respect, you should show respect.

To people that want to support my idea: Please give it a kudo and make sure to share this with all of your Spotify buddies ! 🙂

Thank you !

It's frustrating to be able to listen to spotify outside Romania and when I come in this country not being able to listen to it. I'm willing to pay the monthly fee but I want the same service for both when I come in Romania as when I'm in other part of europe.

Dear all,

If I understood correctly, this initiative will never be interesting for Spotify team, if is not prooving it is a real need. And they count the level of the need based on the number of Kudos. Until now, this idea gets only 70 Kudos and I don't thing is something...

So, my proposal for you is to share the link through facebook or other social media channels and ask others to support that. Who is with me in that?

nicumarius

I'm really pissed off about what you said axxelbe. You ask me to mass spam my friends on facebook asking them to beg the guys from spotify to provide their service in Romania too? Let me ask you, did the sweedish or any other country begged them for this service? In Romania if you try to make an account on spotify, to see what is all about you will be greeted by a message telling you that you are in the wrong country. So what do you expect to tell to my friends? Fairytales about a service similar to Deezer, Zonga or Apple music store? How much money the guys on spotify invested in promoting their service in Romania. They expect to invest zero, keep the service closed and get huge crowds of fans to worship them every day? Why you need us to BEG? Maybe the spotify team is feeding on our humiliation. They had a taget and they didn't achived it.

I'm very sorry to dissapoint you but I will never do what you ask me.  I will advise them to use alternative music streaming services like Deezer and forget spotify because you will only lose your time gathering "kudos".

axxelbe

Dear nicumarius,

Maybe you're right...

However I don't see may proposal as an supplication. In these days all is based on demand... 🙂

I assume, this "idea box" is for Spotify team a marketing tool and number of Kudos is describing the level of importance of the certain idea. On the other hand is not them fault that we are not in first wave (or second or...) target. Let's not forget Spotify is not the only one big commercial service which is not rushing to come on Romanian market. (I don't want to speculate on "why-s"...) But, if the local demand is high, maybe will worth for them to apply for copyrights and other technical aspects, but mandatory.
Of course, there are other music streaming services which are already present in Romania and all of them could be a good alternative for this one. You have recommended those services, but you've also said you are frustrated you cannot listen Spotify in Romania, like in other part of Europe. And you even want to pay for a premium membership... (I'm not sure why you recommend to your friend something different - you posted your wish here a few days ago...)
Again, my message from above was just a proposal: asking the help of our friends (who probably are not aware of what's going on here) to support this. (By the way, spamming means something completly different.)  😉

All the best!

As far as I know from different sources, they are trying to launch in Romania since the beginning of Jan 2014.

The deal with Telekom went south, the negotiations (with CREDIDAM and other music rights institutions as well as with various music labels) were long and tough.

It's not about - hey spotify, why don't you want my money - anymore, it's not even about the level of piracy.

But strictly lots of paperwork.

Let's see what happends after february 2016

Fingers crossed!

The funny thing is that said paperwork was thin enough to allow romanian singers to post music on spotify and produce cash for them. Now it's suddenly complicated. If Netflix did it, Spotify can too. No excuses.

We want Spotify in Romania ❤️ ! I'd like to buy also Spotify Premium, like i do with Netflix! Do it please!

nicumarius

Don't waste your time here gathering kudos for your after life stancudragos. Try the already existing services. Try Tidal if you want lossless high fidelity sound quality music or try Deezer if you want romanian music from manele and folk music till romanian opera. Life is short, don't waste it on senseless actions. They all have a month free to try it. I choosed Deezer because the price is lower and it has a great variety of music. Hope you'll enjoy it and... boggie all night long! 😉

Sorry guys but I decided to no longer support the idea. We, as people have dignity, and we shouldn't grovel to anyone for something they should realise if they pulled their heads out of their asses. I might resubscribe to premium if they would decide to open in Romania, this, coupled with the high price in comparison with Apple Music, has determined me to no longer care about what Spotify does or does not do in its own interest. They think they're hot **bleep**, but frankly, time's catching up on them, and they'll soon discover how bad of a move not opening up everywhere was. Just wait and see ! Cheers & Thanks to all of you that Kudo'ed. From my perspective, this was energy lost. Same as the money I wasted on Spotify so far. Could've gotten a Photoshop sub instead and be better off. Oh well, better cut my losses now.

I asked Spotify sgain. All I got was some generic subdcribe here, follow us there answer. It's so demeaning to know that your country is being regarded as third world even when it comes to stuff like music. Netflix managed to open everywhere and spotify isn't even able to open in one crmmycountry. Funny enough they did open inHungary which doesn't come close to Romania as market size.
