[Desktop] Add support for Apple Silicon (ARM64 on Mac)

Feature request:

Add support for Apple Silicon in a future Spotify release on Mac OS.

Apple have recently released a new generation of Macs based on their own Apple Silicon. I hope that Spotify will prioritize native support for this new CPU architecture.  If so the best music platform on the Mac, will continue running great natively on the new generation Mac hardware.

Hey everyone,

Thank you all for bringing your feedback to the Community Idea Exchange and participating in this Beta test!

Your input has been invaluable and helped us tweak the app to make full use of the new CPU architecture.

We're happy to announce that the app is now out of Beta and can be downloaded from our website. You should automatically get the correct version for your Mac's CPU and all updates will be automatic as well, just the way it was in the past.

This idea is now officially implemented! Thanks once more for all your votes and posts.

Happy listening! 🎶

Why don't you make this available through updates?

I was waiting arm version since July, updated many times in hope to get the arm version...

90% of people with M1 will never look this forum

Hey @V1TRU it is now available as per normal updating process - this post was from when we were testing the new version.

Please try re-installing if the update isn't giving you the ARM version. Let us know how you get on.

Well, my premium membership remains cancelled, but I thought to re-download the latest M1 version after several months of zero Spotify. (I have a local iTunes/Music library) So far, so good. The app has been running for several days now with no crashes and system resources used are minimal. If this version of the app behaves itself I might re-consider premium.

On a side note; I'm from Belgium but I'm on holiday in Spain. I was forced to change my region and am now hearing and seeing only Spanish ads. This is not really a problem for me, but the ads are even less effective as I don't understand much Spanish at all. (I use my wife for translating, when necessary) So, is it possible to permanently select your home region no matter where you are in the world? Again, I don't really care about this, but maybe you (Spotify) want to consider this in order for your ads to be effective, because right now they're not at all, in my case. Also, this has an effect on recommended regional music. I like Spanish tunes, but I would also like to keep seeing what is going on in my home country.

So, like finally releasing a native M1 version, do you also think the above is a good idea? Maybe a year for a response? 😉

See, my account language is still in Dutch, but region is Spain. More Spotify logic...

No, I don't feel like opening a new ticket because this is mostly a non-issue, for me.

I'll start by saying all is forgiven, I have renewed my premium subscription after it was established that there is now a stable app for the M1.

The Spotify app is working flawlessly on my M1, even when I was still on Big Sur. Now on Monterey also with no problems. So I'm not sure there is anything for them to fix.

ButteryStools
Definitely nothing for them to fix. Works flawlessly on my M1 too.

Mine has been working incredibly and super stable since the M1 version came out

chartz2

Same here. Absolutely flawless with M1.

The iOS version is also super-fast.

Please fix the two finger swipe to go back feature. It's not working. I have to keep clicking the top left back arrow button which is annoying. In Chrome it works fine.

@Stumpington That's not a spotify feature. That's a browser feature.
