[Desktop] Add support for Apple Silicon (ARM64 on Mac)

Feature request:

Add support for Apple Silicon in a future Spotify release on Mac OS.

Apple have recently released a new generation of Macs based on their own Apple Silicon. I hope that Spotify will prioritize native support for this new CPU architecture.  If so the best music platform on the Mac, will continue running great natively on the new generation Mac hardware.

Hey everyone,

Thank you all for bringing your feedback to the Community Idea Exchange and participating in this Beta test!

Your input has been invaluable and helped us tweak the app to make full use of the new CPU architecture.

We're happy to announce that the app is now out of Beta and can be downloaded from our website. You should automatically get the correct version for your Mac's CPU and all updates will be automatic as well, just the way it was in the past.

This idea is now officially implemented! Thanks once more for all your votes and posts.

Happy listening! 🎶

Just make an official statement about the native support, announce some dates like a normal company would do. It's sad to see pages of customer complaints and add another

Hi - just another request for m1 arm support from a paying customer.

bodiatothom

Just wanted to voice my desire for a native arm M1 Mac version!

I recently received a notification of a price increase in march, years of active service give little in return it seems. Now still using this unstable and energy hogging Spotify App on my otherwise excellent MacBook Pro M1.. Do they want their users to unsubscribe? I am strongly considering it, after the price increase it is also less competitive than before compared to other services.

So far it runs pretty stable on Rosetta 2, but the battery performance is just bad. Takes up more battery running in the background than using safari or word actively all day. Please just make it native!!!

The Performance is ok but the much bigger problem is the unacceptable Battery drain!

The IDLE Spotify App uses twice as much Energy as 4k video playback in the same amount of time.

I don't know how this is possible but it's consistent and reproducible.

I'm new to how Spotify handles changes but measured on the Post for porting to UWP (Windows 10) or the most "Liked" Posts realistically I have no hope for this to be addressed ... ever.

Please prove me wrong!

But as already mentioned much more complex apps have already been ported.

I think the Management is to blame here by not listening to the dev's or not prioritizing accordingly.

In the end Spotify's Product is the Software that delivers the music (experience).

There are many good service out there which care for there Product (and future).

Seems like Spotify wants to actively hurt Apple customers for some reasons.

Last year they complained that the HomePod was locked to Apple Music and that it was unfair, but when Apple opened it up to other music streaming services, then it's radio silence. There's 2k likes on the idea forum and no updates from Spotify.

Why is that?

Apple loaned dev kits with their own silicon this past summer to make sure developers could make their apps compatible with Apple Silicon when the first M1 Mac shipped. Some of those developers are MUCH smaller than Spotify, make way less money and make NATIVE apps, which are harder to make than apps like Spotify which uses a multi-platform framework named Electron. Basically, Spotify is a website wrapped in it's own dedicated window and the Electron framework is now AS compatible, so essentially Spotify is neglecting Apple customers on purpose at this point.

Currently 780 votes, I doubt Spotify would notice / care losing that few users, since they have millions of subscribers. But would it get their attention if 780 "voters" just decided to end their active subscription until a fix is ready?

The current desktop app drains the battery quite fast and crashes from time to time, so having an M1 optimised version would be great!

This should really be here by now. The intel version has stupid high battery drain. Might switch to Apple Music if it means I can listen to music without it taking more battery than anything else I am doing...
