[Desktop] Option if Spotify links should open native Spotify app or Webplayer

Seems like Spotify keeps pushing this issue aside because not enough people are complaining about it. I've actually seen a good amount of posts on the community boards about it but none of them seem to have gained traction with the powers that be, claiming its a non-issue and the post gets closed. I disagree, wholeheartedly.

Please bring this option back! I don't use the web player... ever. And, I don't want to now have to start copying and pasting the links into spotify app. Call me lazy. The advanced settings used to have the option to have links open in the desktop app. But that option has recently disappeared. Seems like a very obvious and useful feature, and just strange to suddenly remove that functionality.

My friends and I are always trading spotify links via text and emails and it's incredibly frustrating that it now doesn't automatically open in the desktop app like it used to. If I say pretty please, with a link to a cherry on top, would you consider this a legitimate request?

Hey folks,

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions on this one.

You should now have the option to open song links directly in the Spotify app!

Cheers 🙂

Can we at least get some reasoning as to why:

- the app is not detected and launched?

- we are ignored here?

Batrak

@spotify please do something about this. Stop ignoring us

I cannot believe how long it's been since I started this thread and still NOT A WORD from Spotify. It's ridiculous. It's such a disappointment that this is being ignored, but ideas like "Update the Spotify App Icon for MacOS Big Sur" with 314 votes is being featured. I think the problem is they don't take "IDEAS" seriously, I initially started this thread as a technical issue, but on day one an administer switched it to an "idea". Totally bogus, this is a technical issue, it used to work the way described, and now it doesn't. I'm THIS close to switching to TIDAL. Looks awesome. Has anyone else tried Tidal? My friends who is an Audophile says its awesome. https://tidal.com/

Dev team in charge of desktop app must have been sleeping the past 6 years. Seems they take more away than they add in. Thoroughly disappointed.

BUMP!

@spotify wth?! 😤

How this is considered a 'new' idea is staggering.
This should be an essential item available to everyone, regardless of whether they have a paid subscription.

Which leads me to think, you don't want this option available, as you would lose advertising revenue due to lack of foot fall on your web player.

Shame on you.

Please fix this. Its 1/11/2021 and nothing has changed in years about this. I was happily listening to spotify in desktop mode, then a friend sent a link for a song and I clicked it and it opened my web browser where it made me sign into the web player. This is terribly annoying.

Still nothing? Spotify where you at?

I can't believe this is even an issue. Like, I kinda shy away from opening Spotify share links just because I know what a hassle it is. Usually I need to log in too, so I'm prompted with a popup saying I should create an account. Very frustrating.
