[Desktop] Option if Spotify links should open native Spotify app or Webplayer

Seems like Spotify keeps pushing this issue aside because not enough people are complaining about it. I've actually seen a good amount of posts on the community boards about it but none of them seem to have gained traction with the powers that be, claiming its a non-issue and the post gets closed. I disagree, wholeheartedly.

Please bring this option back! I don't use the web player... ever. And, I don't want to now have to start copying and pasting the links into spotify app. Call me lazy. The advanced settings used to have the option to have links open in the desktop app. But that option has recently disappeared. Seems like a very obvious and useful feature, and just strange to suddenly remove that functionality.

My friends and I are always trading spotify links via text and emails and it's incredibly frustrating that it now doesn't automatically open in the desktop app like it used to. If I say pretty please, with a link to a cherry on top, would you consider this a legitimate request?

Hey folks,

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions on this one.

You should now have the option to open song links directly in the Spotify app!

Cheers 🙂

@jrham I don't think there is a toggle, but the idea is half implemented anyway, because the browser window is not closing by itself as it should like any other software do.

The toggle they mention is an option on the three-dot menu of each song. Not a proper solution. Spotify developers looks like are focusing on making the experience worse everyday, with bad UI decisions and without solving simple issues like these.

If I have the desktop player installed, why the **bleep** would I want to use the web player? They keep circling the issue with stupid developments and workarounds.

We just want a simple way to disable the web player and open all links on the desktop player. There's tons of topics asking for this here and on reddit.

BTW, thanks for the info on the browser extensions, that's exactly what is needed.

Gearing up to be working from my laptop more and I work with music -- every time I open a link, it just creates a new Spotify tab in my browser... How is this even operating as a live feature? I am purely confused. I didn't think the issue would incense me to the point of searching google but here I am 🥴. I am disgusted.

Honestly Spotify, I don't know who you think we are, but this giving us the runaround when you supposedly "solve" problems and then not fully implementing the idea is ridiculous. Furthermore, why am I being congratulated for liking a post? I have seen this sort of **bleep** too many times on this forum, so now I must ask, what is wrong you people? I shall be looking to take my business elsewhere in the next month or so. You guys are a joke.

And here I im, using a script on Tampermonkey because I can't open links in the app in any other way.
Thank you, Spotify, for being a sheet of a service ❤️

This is set to "Implemented" but I don't think it was implemented? If it is possible could someone advise where to find it?

Syfied

It is not implemented in production 1.1.73.517.gbef50fdb

How is this basic function still not a thing almost two years later? I'm tired of clicking Spotify links and having them open the Web Player. I don't use the Web Player and I have no interest in using it. I'm not sure why this is being handled as a suggested feature and not a bug. Fix it already.
