[Desktop] Restore Cache Location Specification

I run on a machine with a small SSD for my OS and critical applications.

In previous versions of Spotify I have set my cache to my larger hard drive. Now this is no longer possible.

Now I am constantly having to manually clear my cache and am unable to specify where I want the files to be kept.

This needs to be restored.

Updated: 2015-07-08

Hey everyone, this feature is returning in the 1.0.9 Desktop update. That update is currently rolling out and should reach everyone quite soon.

I have to have the cache location feature back.

This is a must to keep my premium membership.

Spotify "1.0": That was the facepalm of the year for me. "Thanks" Spotify.

A hard link to the rescue! Hard link your Data-Folder in C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\Spotify.

As an example: C:\Users\Foobar\AppData\Local\Spotify\Data <==> D:\Music\Spotify

You can use the following batch script within the AppData\Local\Spotify-Folder:

cd C:\Users\Foobar\AppData\Local\Spotify

myscript.cmd D:\Music\Spotify

---

 @echo off

if %1.==. goto :usage

echo %~dp0Data == %~f1

set CHOICE=nothing
echo (Q)uit, (Return) hardlink this folder
set /P CHOICE=
if /i "%CHOICE%"=="Q" goto :quit

mklink /d "%~dp0Data\" "%1\"
pause

:quit

exit

:usage
echo No parameters given. Pass the new Spotify data-folder as the first parameter.

SSD space is heavily managed by everybody who has one. It's bad enough that you can't choose where to install spotify now you can't even change the cache location. Who makes inflexible software like this nowadays?

The only reason I have a premium version is because of the increased quality, I can't have that if everything is going to my SSD.

I so wish that companies would stop threat every user as a casual user that haven't ever pressed anything other then Start menu in their life.
Gives us back functionallity before your supposed to be "user friendliness".
Don't you get that you will lose customers with this? I mean, is there any, at all, reason to remove this functionality?
Stop forcing us to use the software as you seem fit and let us do it our way. We pay for this, listen to us.

Couldnt agree more. 60GB SSD is not an appropriate location for a media cache for so many reasons.

MrFrisbee

Bloody annoying this and it is only my first day with a Premium Account - as all the above say, please add this feature back to the software.

PS: How about an official response from the team at Spotify?

Hellfire257

This is really silly and needs to be addressed. I run a very tight storage system on my machine and now Spotify is munching up the precious free space on my SSD rather than the 100s of GBs on my media drive. I cannot see why this feature was removed.

it's sad that we even need to put this up as an idea when it USED TO BE PART OF THE BLOODY CLIENT.

My C drive is almost filled up all the time, and now it's because of spotify not letting me choose where I want it to put it's cache files, PLEASE bring this option back!
