Integration of Spotify and BMW Connected Drive

It would be great to be able to manage Spotify through BMW iDrive, either by a dedicated Spotify app on BMW system or at least by a connection of iDrive controls with Spotify app on the iPhone.

Updated: 2015-09-17
Since Spotify is now available for BMW Conected Drive on the iPhone, we'll mark this topic as 'Implemented'.

If you're on Android - please add your kudos to this idea here:
[Android] Integration of Spotify and BMW Connected Drive - Android

Thanks everyone!

Great idea - Spotify please make this happen

I'd also like to have the Spotify app work better with Connected Drive. I have an iPhone 5s and BMW Connected Drive NBT in an F22.
The first song I play on the phone shows up with Information and Cover, the songs after the first one still show the info of the first one.
I can skip tracks, but without info...
Perfect would be a complete integration where I can choose from my playlists and stuff directly via iDrive.

Please work on this, Spotify!

Well, for me it now work.

But I have to follow a very specific set of rules to make it happen.

* No iTunes music on my iPhone - none at all (in the settings you can disable the Music Store and make it - under the music menu that none of your purchased music is displayed on your device).

* Before starting up the engine - Plug In your iPhone to the USB plug and start playing a track - whatever track.

* Start your car and ...

... voilà, let the music play !

Following this procedure I do have :

* Album Art

* Sound (of course 🙂

* Ability to change track from the car command (next track, previous track)

I cannot browse my playlist from iDrive.

It is not yet perfect integration, but it is good enough for me.

* 2013 3 series

* iPhone 6 - iOS 8.1 (worked too with 8.0)

Did not work on my previous device with iOS7 altough I did not found the trick back then to Plug the phone first.

Would like to se BMW connected drive support soon. The entertainment level would my complete when you can enjoy favorite playlist in the interface.

Today I noticed what appears to be full connected drive support in my 2012 M3. Unfortunately, like Audible, if you leave the app on the iphone the must no longer plays. Is there a way to change that behaviour or stop it from going into connected drive. I actually liked it the way it was. Cheers

Yes it looks like BMW ConnectedDrive support is finally here with the latest update. It was a big surprise when I plugged it in without that knowledge as in true App developer style the changes were listed as "Fixed: More bugs and fixes". Anyway - loving it and it now means I'll be a committed subscriber.

Indeed, Spotify is finally integrated as BMW App directly into ConnectedDrive.

Although I switched over to Deezer a few months ago, it's great to see they finally implemented this.
Already thinking about switching over to Spotify again...

In the end it's a pitty that there has never been an official reply from Spotify in this thread, letting us know that they are working on an implementation.

Thank you for (finally) integrating Spotify with BMW's iDrive!  I've been waiting a long time for this...  With that said, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to use it.  The integration requires that that app be open and active on my iPhone.  What this means for me is that I cannot have Escort Live or Waze running in the forescreen while Spotify is playing.  Deal breaker?  Not sure yet...

So glad I found this section! Like the rest of you, I plugged my phone in yesterday and boom! There it was in the connected apps section. Before, it would work very well but w/ less integration. A few gripes and help: 1. It locks you out of using the phone directly and makes you use iDrive. 2. Cannot lock the phone or even jump away from app. These are two glaring issues. Is there a way to disable the connectivity? I just want to go back to how it all worked before. Thanks Alex. PS How is this working exactly? I haven't updated my iDrive software?
