Let users turn off some or all desktop notifications, e.g. "Your friend ______ just joined Spotify."

So according to the @SpotifyCares Twitter account, there's no way at all to turn off desktop notifications. None. Which seems insane to me! Spotify is the only app that sees fit to blow up my OSX dock with notifications multiple times every week, yet there's no functionality to let me control which notifications I see - or even if I see them at all!

So, obviously:I'm proposing that Spotify let users control this! I, like most people, do not have a deep personal relationship with 100% of my Facebook friends, so I don't need to know whenever some random person I went to high school with gets Spotify. I have zero interest in sending them anything or interacting with them on Spotify in any way, so it benefits neither me nor Spotify to pop up that red notification and nag me to view it before it goes away.

Anyways, yeah! This all feels super obvious, but since the @SpotifyCares Twitter account told me to post this here, that's what I'm doing. "New idea:" STOP BUGGING ME WHEN PEOPLE I DON'T CARE ABOUT JOIN SPOTIFY. USE THE OSX DOCK NOTIFICATIONS SYSTEM RESPONSIBLY. Thank you.

Hey everyone. Now you can go to your the Notifications section of your Accounts page via Spotify.com and adjust both your in-app and email notifcations.

I see notifications as important and useful but I would like more control over them.

Being able to turn notifications on and off for individual playlists or artists would allow me to filter out the lists and artists that I care about less and only see notifications from those that I'm really engaged with.

An example of how this system could work is how facebook structures their notification settings. If I like a page on facebook, I have the option of whether I get notifications from that page or not with an easily accesible setting near the like/follow button.

Looking forward to seeing you guys get this closer to being implemented.

This is so silly. Why do you think we care that someone added a track to some playlist we're following? Windows 10 now pushes the notifications to the taskbar, so I'm getting a little blue bubble pop up that I have to clear.

Why do you think forcing these notifications down our throats is worth protecting? Do you think it adds value, makes us more likely to care about the notification feed, or is super hard to disable? I serously doubt all three.

Thinking about cancelling my subscription and checking out Apple Music over this.

So silly. Please let me turn off the notifications. Thanks.

Just cancelled my subscription because of this. Maybe they'll fix it some point in the future and I'll consider coming back.

Yeah, I'm cancelling as well. When there are 49 notifications, all of them lose meaning, because nothing of value is actually being communicated. Instead of having one notification for EACH track that was added, why not just group it together into one notification saying that a playlist was updated? And provide an option to turn it off?

It's ridiculous.

it's been 3 years guys...this is an embarrassingly easy issue to solve. All my other mac apps have the option to turn off badges in the system preferences.

tvbomhard

I've just signed up to the forum to support the "disable notifications" feature!

This post is from 2012. How has this problem not been solved yet?

I want to be able to save playlists to the side bar without recieving a notification whenever the creator adds new tracks. It's absurd that for a service with a monthly subscription this is not an option. I second what many people are saying - I've noticed myslef avoiding opening the program becasue I don't want the notifications to show up on my taskbar (I'm on a Mac).

Ideally, when you subscribe to a playlist, you should be able to decide if you want notifications from that playlist or not.

Please fix soon.

WTF, this idea exists for 3 years, is in the top 20 and still not implemented? It is not even a feature, it's quite respectless not to give users control over annoying notifications... I didn't expect Apple to even allow this.

I see that "Not right now" means "we don't even think about it".
